@prologic also, if you edit, the subject gets duplicated. See my previous twtxt.
(#jihhx5a) @prologic of course! If you mention someone, and immediately after the mention you put a comma, the mentions breaks. At least when mentioning someone outside twtxt.net. I don't think this relates to the backend change, but still.
@prologic I agree. I never liked that Bitcask. Not even the name I like. LOL.
@prologic admit it, you are just looking to chat with anyone to overstress the pod, and see how it behaves. Hahahahahaha! :-P
@prologic I will hold up the celebration for a day, or two. Or a week. 😅
Hmmm, I am seeing lots of feeds I never saw before. One of the perks of the new backend?
If using SQLite, are we eventually going to see more twtxts under our user profiles, or?
@prologic so, what’s new? Is the backend SQLite now? It is behaving, or still gobbling up all your RAMs?
@prologic no, see the site “Source” on the footer.
@kat that site is pretty cool, I like what you have done with it, colours and all! 😍
@xuu don’t blame me, blame The Maker. 😅
(#vi62rlq) I meant to tag @movq but forgot. LOL. There, done.
@xuu everyday is an April Fools day that comes true in the US, for the next four years. 😩
@eapl.me awesome, and thank you! Sorry I missed all that in the noise. I truly am a TL;DR fan! 😂
I am confused (maybe I missed what they said, or didn't read well). What was "Sonora Taqueria" answer to the cease and desist demand letter[1]? Did the accusers simply dropped their suit efford, or was "Sonora Taqueria" able to make their case (see [1])?
@eapl.me a “minimalistic” one too, just like Yarnd. 😅
Are you all forgetting today’s April’s Fool? 🤣
@prologic that's you, and me, and some others. Sadly, though, a huge majority (I don't have sources, or numbers, but "trust me, bro" :-P) will simply, gladly, and unapologetically, pirate.
I see nothing wrong with the "implications". I would call them features. I think this will be the best thing that happened to Yarn since the subject extension.
@prologic I noticed that the hash also shows (as in clearly visible) on the “in-reply-to”. That doesn’t happen with any other client—well, at least not with Yarn, nor jenny.
@eapl.me other than getting a pseudo tally, what else do you aim to accomplish from this? That is, what is the tangible expectation?
@prologic what did you come up with, to accomplish it?
@eapl.me you wrote, partially:
> "I’d like to change that. It’s by nerds/hackers, for nerds/hackers and friends of these."
I wish you well, and good luck! 😅
@andros and how will that help "discover people"? I am missing something, I am sure, as I don't understand.
Twtxt was made for nerds, by nerds. So one would script a way to often (and/or ongoing) check your web server logs for new mentions, "follows", etc.
@doesnm why? The Gemini protocol is an obscure, niche, good-for-nothing (yeah, I am trolling) protocol. Search for "Gemini", and tell me in which page, on your search engine of choice, you see it being referred as a protocol.
@xuu it is called “reaffirmation”. It is a lesser known feature that activates randomly to make sure you get the gist on things that matter. 😅
Did you demoed Yarn? When it comes to less friction nothing can beat a web browser!
@prologic Gemini has an answer for you:
This is a conversation thread from a twtxt network, detailing a user's (movq) frustration with the Mastodon "export data" feature and their consideration of self-hosting a fediverse alternative. Here's a summary:
* movq's initial issue:
* movq is concerned about the volatility of their data on their current Mastodon instance due to a broken "export data" feature.
* They contacted the admins, but the issue remains unresolved.
* This led them to contemplate self-hosting.
* Alternative fediverse software suggestions:
* kat suggests gotosocial as a lightweight alternative to Mastodon.
* movq agrees, and also mentions snac as a potential option.
* movq's change of heart:
* movq ultimately decides that self-hosting any fediverse software, besides twtxt, is too much effort.
* Resolution and compromise:
* The Mastodon admins attribute the export failure to the size of movq's account.
* movq decides to set their Mastodon account to auto-delete posts after approximately 180 days to manage data size.
* Movq also mentions that they use auto-expiring links on twtxt to reduce data storage.*
@movq so glad I don’t use Firefox! And now I will pretend I haven’t seeing your screenshot. Hahahahaha!
@movq I don’t see the utility, nor artistry in it, but if it works for you, 🥳! 😅
@lyse I have never used a paper calendar. Before I was 23-24 years old I didn’t use a calendar at all. Since I was 24, I have used pocket computer based ones, until today. I have a personal calendar, and a family shared one. So do wife, and children.
Come to think of it, I don’t use writing/scribbling paper at all!
@lyse deeply honored to be used as an example, when illustrating things that will break! :-D <3
@andros I think that by "starting again" they meant "starting over", as in, completely dropping it, and starting with a blank slate.
@prologic mentions randomly break. I tried mentioning @lyse/@movq
(in that form), and didn’t work, breaking weirdly, adding twtxt.net to one of them. Then editing added a visible hash.
Dear god, Yarn is so full of "surprises", not even funny.
(#cwfxolq) @movq / @lyse, well, I was wrong. It doesn't merit congratulations. Boy, that 2032 asteroid is starting to look quite appealing...
@movq/, well, I was wrong. It doesn't merit congratulations. Boy, that 2032 asteroid is starting to look quite appealing...
@prologic they had elections, and conservatives won (the dreaded AfD didn't take majority, and most likely will not be forming coalition with the winning party). Not a perfect outcome (that never happens), but it could have been much worse, I think.
Maybe @lyse and/or @movq can expand.
Hmm, it seems it isn't super great, but it could have been worse.
I heard that congratulations to Germany are in order, is that right? If so, congratulations!
@twtxt.net right, until they do. Remember we found collisions in this very, very small “ecosystem”.
@twtxt.net remember, for anything that may sound appealing to you, the party behind all this is the equivalent of the Liberal Party of Australia, and you said they are “fat liars”, yes?
@twtxt.net it seems they are the Australian equivalent of the US Republican Party. Being liars is just a nibble of it.
@twtxt.net agree with none. Project 2025, go fuck yourself! (pardon my French)
So, are we muting/blocking the "DMers"? I am starting a list, and I am checking it twice.
@lyse it depends if you already have the needed libraries, and auxiliary packages installed. If you do, then a few hundred MiB, for sure.
@movq not at all. Almost everyone I know uses an iPhone, so Messages is the standard. Many others simply use Facebook Messenger.
@lyse and by „install\n the package "imagemagick"“ you mean installing a multi-GiB set of tools and libraries. :-D
@lyse and by „install[ing] the package "imagemagick"“ you mean installing a multi-GiB set of tools and libraries. :-D
@movq I cannot start to tell you how much I despise WhatsApp, but if I want to keep in touch with family and friends in Europe, I am forced to use it. WhatsApp use is pervasive in Europe.
Trying to replicate what prologic did:
- This is the first bulleted line.
- This is the second bulleted line.
- This is the third.
Done.
Using -
instead now, to see:
- This is the first bulleted line.
- This is the second bulleted line.
- This is the third.
Done.
Yes, you did something quite weird with yours.
Let me see how mine come out:
* This is the first bulleted line.
* This is the second bulleted line.
* This is the third.
This concludes my test.*
@twtxt.net unrelated, there are problems with <li>
here. There shouldn't be <p>
within them, I think. I might be wrong.
@twtxt.net just being real. I will do it because I feel it's my duty. As Anthony said on his letter, it isn't about a silly name, but blindy abiding.
@a.9srv.net I don't think it will have any impact, but it is the very least we (investors, and/or customers) can do. I will do the same.
@andros it seems your GtS has issues:
> Warning! It looks like trusted-proxies is not set correctly in this instance's configuration. This may cause rate-limiting issues and, by extension, federation issues.
>
> If you are the instance admin, you should fix this by adding 10.66.66.1/32 to your trusted-proxies.
@twtxt.andros.dev it might be fine, but not here. It just causes more issues than fixes.
@lyse not quite. Yes, the feeds on Yarn have episodic messes. But look at mine, and compare it to McKinley’s. It is night and day.
@lyse that feed looks all messed up, in a big glob.
@twtxt.net seems like you showed interest on some Snake Oil kumbayah. LOL.
@falsifian deal, I will stop writing twtxts for the next 96 hours (giving you some extra buffer there)!
@twtxt.net pretty cool, thanks! (this is also a test; I used to follow you, I unfollowed to see how my reply mention shows).
@twtxt.net right. I don't follow you. I will restart following you once Yarn has fixed this problem. :-P
@ when is the christening? Let me know, and I will plan a trip to down under. ☺️
@movq I extensively use Cloud tabs under macOS/iOS, and history across both OSs as well. I am finding the it has limited my needing to use search engines greatly.
Granted, I usually keep between 50-60 open tabs, and Safari (both mobile and desktop) does a great job with them (power wise). Now, 500! Ooof! 😅
@ my back hurts just from reading you put together a shelf last night! :-D
@lyse you just reminded me I need to schedule a visit to the Tooth Fairy. 😅
About the weather, ugh! Crazy the world we live in. Our west coast is engulfed on fires, and the other side of the world is pretty much freezing. You can't make this up!
@ hehehe, it is not streamlined as you want it. Feedly and an amalgam of news sites, prioritising BBC, NPR, and The Guardian.
Tech news on Hacker News, some subs on Reddit, etc.
@ I get an email each day with headlines, but it is not my only source of news.
This is me test[ing] this to see if I am manag[ing] to break it once more.
