Just been watching and reading reviews of the Librem 5 and Pine64 phones and well I hate to say it, but they're kind of really terrible. But OTOH I'm not really surprised, the market is basically over saturated by Samsung, Google and Apple that it's next to impossible to create something even half decent. I'll say one thing though... Ubuntu Touch isn't too bad. Too bad both the Librem and Pine64 phones hardware is just inadequate :/

@prologic … “but the idea behind this phone is great”. Yep. If all smartphones were like this (minus the bugs/slowness), I’d actually be interested in them. To be honest, the Pine64 – even in its current state – is way more interesting than any Android or iPhone I’ve seen. 🤔 Running any OS I want? It comes with a dock? Hardware switches? *Being able to easily run my own programs?* Awesome! Finally something that doesn’t feel like a toy or golden cage. Maybe I’ll gift myself one for christmas. 🤔*

Yeah I feel sorta the same way. I mean can it really be this hard? Maybe it is, mostly because of the monopoly that Apple, Google and Samsung have over the "smartphone" market.

Here's my ideal phone. Something that can run PWA (_Progressive Web Apps_) and that's all. It has network connectivity, ut fuck the cellular side, it's all insecure anyway. Just gimme IP and a Browser.

@movq @prologic My problem with the Pinephone is that I believe I would spend most of my time hacking on it and it being in an unfunctional state rather than a functional one/ People would get angry they couldn't reach me, I probably to. I would probably install the most functional operating system on it at that point and "leave it like that", but I wouldn't be satisfied for various reasons, probably considering restarting hacking on it and buying a "functional" phone, considering to switch back to the Pinephone when the stuff...

@adi @movq @prologic ... I hack on is "stable" (years away probably). Also, don't get me started on https://sr.ht/~mil/Sxmo/. Writing your own shell scripts to send/and receive calls? SMS? I would feel very misunderstood.

@adi @prologic @movq I believe me constantly hacking at stuff is one of the reasons I broke up with my last girlfriend. In the above scenario, she would just use the phone like most people do, I would hack on it.
