@prologic right. For that I pest them with, I shall say, limited, or poor results. I can't manage everyone, is something I learned as soon as children became adults.
@prologic I wasn't, but now that you mention it,we finished the last season "Dune: Prophecy", and "The Rings of Power", so looking forward to those two too! Hahahaha!
@prologic not me. I am using Apple's limited "management" included on "Family Shared" plans. I don't want the burden (nor responsibility), and I am 100% sure family wouldn't want it, anyway.
I am interested, but if no one else will make it I will then pass until next year. LOL. I mean, I can always message/call you/video conference you, at any time, right? đ€Ș
Oh, and âWinterâ too!
An entire year waiting for this season, yet, it comes and goes so soon. I am going to squeeze the most of whatâs left until itâs over.
@prologic âtherealprologicâ? Really? đ€Šââïžđ
@prologic we have been all guilty, at some point or another, of spending too much money on domains we donât need. Pax vobiscum! đđđ
@soren you reach out and tell them to set a nick? Or parse the URL, and use the word right after the tilde as the nick?
@aelaraji I am sure it will run fine. I mean, mine is on a VPS, with 1GB RAM, 1vCPU, and shares it with Conduwit (Matrix), a few websites, Headscale, etc. đ
Merry Christmas! Cute canine, as always! đ„°
Merry Christmas, everyone!
GoToSocial snapshot has gained "editing statuses" capabilities (and the ability to see the update trail as well). That was one of the things I wanted to most to be implemented. Actually, that sits at the top of my wish list. Next is push notifications.
@eapl.me thatâs such a good plan! Staying at home, comfy, is all I wanted. But nooo! This brings true the saying in Spanish, âUna cosa piensa el borracho, y otra el bodeguero.â đ
Grocery shopping in the day of Christmas Eve is nuts, and wife is dragging me through it. đ©
@prologic, do you use zsh
on macOS, or do you change it to, say, bash
?
@thecanine yeah, PayPal blows. I use it exclusively when buying stuff from eBay, because using anything else is a pain. Other than that they can go fly a kite.
@prologic dear lord! Can you make it a little bit longer? đ€
@doesnm Usenet is NNTP. No other way. And yes, it is very much alive. Now, finding servers to interact with it, freely, is becoming more of a problem these days.
@andros grats! A few things. Typo on jenny
; thatâs, itâs âjennyâ, not âJannyâ. You missed how to reply to others, and how to find those who âfollowâ you, which will require to mention the current extensions.
@movq not uncommon. I have mine for the last 4+ years.
@aelaraji hello to your nephew, mate! Cheers!
@prologic how does one signs up? I am sure you havenât advertised the service yet, right?
@prologic sure thing! I am at mumâs for coffee. Message away, always!
@prologic ahh! âCapabilityâ. Minimum is terminal (SSH) access, and availability of tools present on an UNIX alike box. Thatâs usually the minimum, and the most common capability.
Many offer the ability to compile in a few languages, and to run your own programs and processes persistently, emails, web hosting, IRC (their own network), etc.
@prologic because all sign ups are vetted and human approved, the operator set the limits, I figure, based on the resources available.
@prologic yes. And more. Or less. There are no âstandardsâ, nor templates.
Like @movq, I am puzzled about the term. I am sure it is an Australianism. đ
@fun does it takes a whole article to simply say: âNothingâ? đ
@lyse LOL. Such a lovely thought! >:-D
@aelaraji SolveSpace tells its age by having a download.pl
in its URL. LOL.
@prologic well, that's how software evolves, no? I mean, there is certain kind of software that benefits from advances in which newer, more capable hardware, is involved. But I get what you mean too! :-D
@aelaraji will all those run on his hardware? I don't think @movq's problem is the software, it is that his hardware has gotten too old. :-D
@skinshafi I tried it (still have it installed on work laptop), didn't like it. The comfort I get from having a web based IRC client (and bouncer) available at all times, from everywhere, can't be easily replaced. :-)
@prologic well, you have a Mac Studio, and I have no Mac, at all. I would happily trade my iPhone 16 Pro for an 11 Max, if I had a Mac Studio. :-D
Weirdly enough, your avatar doesnât seem to be working here.
Having a blast with Apple's Image Playground. :-D
@lyse the nympho part got me excited, but the thought of seeing her naked truth, and the typos, were a huge turn off. :'-D
@doesnm interesting! A shell BBS with a handful of C code.
@lyse how about just twtxt
? Is the extension really needed?
@anth that is, a Taiwan text file?
@movq LOL. I see flamingos, and I think of old people (group I am about to belong soon [well, kid says I am already there]), and pastel colours. Very stereotypical. :-)
@movq LOL. I see flamingos, and I think of old people (group I am about to belong soon \n), and pastel colours. Very stereotypical. :-)
@lyse ooooohhhh, colours! đ
@lyse that's the driveway ramp for the house next door. :-)
@johan and a running web server (or Gemini, Gopher, though those might not work for everyone).
I donât think a domain name is needed, but a public IP address.
Someone in the neighbourhood is ready!
Christmas decorated house.
@prologic âno show, however good, could conceivably be good for ever.â âșïž
No worries, holidays will be back again sooner than you think.
@eapl if your point is to state that the extension is redundant, why âtwt.txtâ, and not âtwtxtâ?
You can call it whatever you want, thatâs the beauty of it. There is no need to set a âstandardâ for this. To prove it, I will setup one feed, and name the file âsĂžrenpeter.txtâ. đ€
Less than 30 minutes for Path of Exile II, and the queue of players waiting for the servers to open the gates is now at 22,525. More than 1 million have purchased the early access to the game. It is going to be a rough ride!
@wbknl "The shocking untold story of the elite secret society of hackers fighting to protect our freedom â âa hugely important piece of the puzzle for anyone who wants to understand the forces shaping the internet age." -- which edition?
@prologic which models do you prefer, and what made you prefer them?
@prologic believe it or not, those green leaves and vines are eatable! Nice view, mate. Love the skies and mountains at the horizon!
@movq IMO, I believe it is all in the quality of the client (mobile, and web). Also, you don't have to hunt/pick for "instances", which arguably presents less friction.
@movq hahahahahaha! I will try to incorporate that one when I complain about AI imagery. Like, "Stop fucking using that AI shit, mon, I am an Kunstliebhaber!
If there a name for those of us who dislike AI generated imagery, or for the dislike of AI generated imagery in general? A composite German word would do! :-)
@prologic got to say, after visiting castles, shrines, and similarly antique places in Japan... no comparison. :-) Wife agrees.
@prologic because of his decision to declare martial law (which attempted to ban political activity and censor the media), seemingly out of the blue.
@skinshafi it is limited use, for now. I read somewhere (can't remember now where) that efforts were being made to make it to function across all Tildes, but it hasn't gotten too far, so it seems.
@prologic the South Korean president is facing impeachment. The president declared martial law to protect the country from North Korea and eliminate anti-state elements. However, the declaration was seen as a response to domestic pressure and scandals. MPs blocked the declaration and forced the president to reverse his decision. The president's defense minister resigned and the president is now facing impeachment proceedings.
@aelaraji ah, yes! The thing is, I have too many broken pieces already. đ€
@prologic is zs
a web server? I see on the source of the page that is simply posting to /cgi-bin/hello
, and some JavaScript to get the value of that post, from the same CGI.
@movq Mastodon offers the "deluxe" experience, but it is a resource hungry beast, that can also be feeble as hell. I miss it, a lot, but am running GoToSocial instead because of its simplicity, and nimbleness.
Because, you know, the more the merrier! :-D
@prologic I prefer:
Coalition for
Universal
Needs
Truth and
Solutions
Worth noting that this is a local "forum". BBJ uses an SQLite database.
@prologic it is an hack and slash ARPG game from Grinding Gears Games. It runs on Windows (and will run on macOS too, eventually), and game consoles (Xbox, and PlayStation).
It comes out on âearly accessâ in 6 December 2024.
Anyone around is thinking, or planning, to play âPath of the Exile IIâ?
@aelaraji if any of my twtxts are fed into a LLM, that would be some dumb one, for sure! LOL.
@prologic there are much, much worse, no sarcasm! :-D
@prologic hahahahaha! You saw, pretty much, South East Asia now, in a nutshell. :-P
Scammers and impersonators are everywhere. Even in small communities like ours!
@prologic you have got to walk more! Have you been to the mountain carved temples? Have you meandered into town, and fought the daily traffic? :-) Dew it!
@movq nice pic, I like the monochromatic colour, and its minimalism!
@movq you can edit, and/or delete on Mastodon. Depending on the client, you could also post in batches. There is a solution. :-)
> I believe the Australian social media ban for kids is an extremely limiting way of regulating human interaction.
>
> When people are harmed in traffic, we do not ban roads. We build better roads, and introduce speed limits. But in Australia they are now removing all access to social media for children under 16 years of age.
>
> It would be much more constructive to have skilled experts define what a safe social media environment for kids looks like, and implement that environment instead.

@prologic right, I donât follow him. But I donât follow a bunch of other people, and itâs the first time this happens.
I donât know about you guys, but whatâs wrong with vCal and iCal? I mean, you do know you can buy paper calendars, right? đ€
Something broke here, @prologic. I will remind you when you return. :-) Ignore for now!
@ Ellen G. White. đ€đ€đ€ âThe Prophetâ of the Seventh Day Adventists.
@prologic very nice! Far away from pollution, enjoy that pure air!
