@tomxcd@tomxcd We're planning it
@ernie@ernie Work only started on Monday. But follow this account and/or our official blog for updates.
In 3.3.0, you can finally control media playback using familiar hotkeys. Spacebar, m, f, and even frame-by-frame navigation using . and ,
Media modals in the web interface are prettier, using the media's dominant color to tint the overlay, and displaying an action bar to interact with it.
Some conditions that caused unnecessary work in the web interface during typing have been fixed, making it feel less laggy.
There are a lot of performance improvements in 3.3.0. The list of known servers and blocked domains in the admin interface now loads within a few hundred ms instead of multiple seconds. Deleting an account's data is about 100 times faster.
You can now dynamically block IPs and IP ranges from the admin interface, preventing full access or merely limiting sign-ups, to help combat spam.
Another highlight is that you can now opt into being notified when somebody you follow makes a new post, so rare posters are not lost among an otherwise busy home feed.
One highlight from 3.3.0 is that account suspensions can now be reversed without data loss within 30 days. This makes moderation mistakes less fatal.
This is a backport release, so if you are already using the latest code from the master branch, you already have all these fixes.
There will be a small v3.1.5 release with important security fixes soon. Please be prepared to upgrade swiftly!v3.2.0 with cool new features will come after that!
β οΈ An issue has been reported with the tootctl upgrade storage-schema command in relation to DigitalOcean Spaces. Avoid executing that for now if you're using Spaces.Also, a warning has been added to the release notes: You don't need to run that command at all. It would incur data transfer costs to do so as it moves files around.
@matt@matt Yes, you can go straight from one version to another skipping the ones in between.Most of the upgrade instructions overlap. Rarely, there are instructions that are special to some release. It's absolutely fine to run them on the latest release, just have to run them as well.
@matt@matt People often miss this sentence: "The release page contains a changelog, and below it, upgrade instructions"You need to follow the instructions on the particular release's page. Have you done that? Or have you only executed assets:precompile which is the example given below?
Attention # sysadmins! A new release with some security fixes will drop on Thursday, prepare to upgrade -- we'll release 2.9.x, 3.0.x, and 3.1.x versions to make sure you have the easiest time upgrading for this.
@< url="https://mastodon.social/@arjenpdevries"> It could be malicious actors seeking to deliberately fill up your database, very chatty fediverse software, servers that for some reason assume they still have followers on your server, relays that for some reason assume you are still subscribed to them, etc.=
Highlights from v2.7.2:The error page elephant animation is now hover-to-playThe conversations column now always displays the list of other participants in the conversation, instead of the most recent oneUnicode in URLs and quotations around them get turned into links the expected way nowNew checks guard the ActivityPub inbox against storing deliveries that nobody asked forAnd many other fixes
