{@https://www.uninformativ.de/twtxt.txt>#btkkxzq} @lyse (#nupokta) Yeah, itโs a huge difference. Pretty happy with the results so far. ๐ฅฐ Still, Iโd rather pay more next time. (The whole bass guitar thingy was an experiment, I didnโt know if I was going to quit after a few weeks. I tried guitar first, didnโt like it. So I bought the cheapest bass I could find. Turns out, itโs awesome, I love it. ๐)
{@https://twtxt.net/user/off_grid_living/twtxt.txt>#cs5siea} Finally I have to cement the surrounds to make everything rat and mouse proof. Notice the chicken wire for a background support for the cement render.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/off_grid_living/twtxt.txt>#mn5dgdq} View of roof, most sheets are second hand, as the rafters and purlins were also. I started with a 100x50 on its side, than a 75 by 75, than a 100x50, than finally a 100 x 50 on its side with a 100 x 50 upright, the last two beams are bolted together. This is a low fall of 50, 75, 100, and 150mm over a distance of 4m. Or 100mm over 4m.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/off_grid_living/twtxt.txt>#ygmwkla} The roof and ceiling are in place, and the 23 degree angle support for solar panels are bolted to a threaded 12mm rod running down into the building.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#gspsyha} @felixp7 (#3u5vp3a) Do we need to do something like what micro.blog does? Automatically offer to convert your writing to a longer blog post?
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#d33vnxq} @felixp7 (#rqlwdlq) yeah I think the notion of privacy with state actors as a joke, however privacy from bad actors is far more valuable.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#bcwk6da} (#cbruy4q) @antonio It's actually not really simple at all! ๐คฃ The idea I have in mind is to have an instance of sshbox running on a uLinux VM. The tricky part is to work out how to persist the sandbox that you effectively end up with when you SSH in. You can _try_ this right now if you like by using your Github username, for example: ssh -p 2222 prologic@150.101.179.238
{@https://twtxt.net/user/antonio/twtxt.txt>#trlxn5a} @prologic (#cbruy4q) cool. You make it sound really simple. Is it just a Linux install where you create accounts that are not root and give the accounts credentials to the users? Or is there more to that?
{@https://twtxt.net/user/antonio/twtxt.txt>#zpiifiq} @prologic (#cbruy4q) yeah I would like to be an alpha tester. ๐ I also would like to learn how to setup something like that myself too.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#m73a54q} @oevl@felixp7 (#yoje5oq) Interesting viewpoint. I _probably_ agree with this. I worked at once of those big 5 too a few years back and whilst you're not technically doing "nothing" per se, you are doing things that don't really promote innovation or help people.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#s7ewtya} There's a thread on Hacker News asking about decentralised Twitter alternatives. My own response to this here
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#7stmu3a} (#dmq6obq) @goodbytes I _think_ the certificates expired on my mail server, for some reason they either don't or didn't auto-renew. It's fixed now. The Request invite token form works again! ๐
{@https://www.uninformativ.de/twtxt.txt>#n57rifq} @lyse (#nupokta) Thx ๐ฅด Itโs the first time Iโm doing this. Works great, though, already feels *much* better. ๐
{@https://pbat.ch/twtxt.txt>#fz2nheq} Just copied over more samples today from my sample collection from one drive to another. Things are in more than one place for the first time in a long time, maybe ever in some cases? Feels nice.
{@https://tilde.town/~lucidiot/twtxt.txt>#k4ev4tq} also, I am logged in on that site as Capt Luc Idiot, since the title field allows any value and suggests 'Capt/Mr/Ms etc'
{@https://tilde.town/~lucidiot/twtxt.txt>#3ccy74q} current status: writing JS in the Pale Moon console to get a single field from 282 maritime accident investigation services listed by the international maritime organization on an ASP.NET website
{@https://www.uninformativ.de/twtxt.txt>#msq2xaq} @prologic (#yaketma) No, I just stole that video from The Internet. Also, nice dinosaur vibe in your vid. ๐ฆ ๐
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#cicpcwa} (#cbruy4q) @antonio When I did this in the past it was either a Hetnzer dedicated server or a Codero one. Can't recall which, probably both at one time ๐ Happy to do it again, but I'd want to invest some time to harden what I have in mind first... Do you want to be an alpha tester? ๐ค
{@https://twtxt.net/user/antonio/twtxt.txt>#fb7ek5q} @prologic (#cbruy4q) that would be super cool. This might be very similar to what the tilde community has own their hosted server (from what I understand). I am thinking this kind of service are great for ppl that don't know or don't have the resources to run their own linux/unix distro but want to learn how the system works. When you did that in the past, who were using it?
{@https://twtxt.net/user/antonio/twtxt.txt>#qt6ksmq} @prologic (#yaketma) man! this ppl feeding them! I wasn't aware of the problem they cause to farmers. I definitely will look at them differently now.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#wch3qka} @antonio (#cbruy4q) I would give full root access to your own persistent sandbox where you can do whatever you want under resource constraints controlled by the host
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#abguv6q} @adi (#cbruy4q) Utah uLinux is not designed to be an everyday OS or Desktop system โ Althougj with some effort it _could be_
{@https://twtxt.net/user/antonio/twtxt.txt>#ksdteaq} @prologic (#cbruy4q) That would be interesting. What type of permissions users would have on their shell accounts?
{@https://twtxt.net/user/adi/twtxt.txt>#3erkssa} @prologic (#cbruy4q) "Consider using Alpine for a more feature rich system or any other โheavierโ / โfull featuredโ distro." ๐ I guess it's a more "feature rich" system compared to ulinux. I run X on OpenBSD and cwm as a simple, clean desktop. I also use their webserver https://man.openbsd.org/httpd.8.
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#73lkdzq} (#cbruy4q) @adi That's precisely what ulinux is to me ๐คฃ So what precisely does OpenBSD bring to the table? Besides a whole range of software I _probably_ won't really need ๐ uLinux is pretty much Linux + Busybox userland + a few things I wrote and not much else. The init system, service management and package manager are all POSIX Shell scripts. It boots in like ~3s flat on modest hardware / virtual hardware and is really simple to use ๐~
{@https://lyse.isobeef.org/twtxt.txt>#vp3sbbq} @prologic@antonio (#yaketma) Sweet! But yeah, I remember seeing tons of leaves and branches torn off when walking on the down under footpaths and thinking "WTF have they done here again!?" Regarding nature: earlier I've seen ~200 sheep beeing driven down a hill to a new snowy paddock. That was quite cute to watch.~
{@https://lyse.isobeef.org/twtxt.txt>#3c4bjoq} While stalking @lyxal I came across the Fibonnaci Project and dug out my heavily rusted Ada knowledge back from the days. I couldn't believe it wasn't listed, yet. I certainly need to do something with that language again. Thanks mate! :-)
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#4wwabsq} (#cbruy4q) I have no _favourite_ GNU Distro! ๐คฃ The only distro I like that I didn't build/design/implement myself is CRUX ๐
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#sj7kkwq} (#cbruy4q) @adi I _believe_ it used to ba Debian back then.\n\nIf I were to do it again, I would run a beefy-ish uLinux VM as the core of this "free" shell service. It would be very niche and if you want additional software on the system, it has to be capable of being built without the use of GCC/GLIBC ๐คฃ
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#32q54oq} (#yaketma) @antonio They're actually considered a "pest" by many farmers around the country (AU) because they destroy crops. In our neighborhood (_which is why we have so many of them here!_) we have someone up the road that feeds them. They went on holidays, so they're angry and mad that no-one is feeding them! These birds are actually so destructive that they'll tear bark off trees, and rip apart your house, guttering, paint, etc. ๐ณ
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#cbruy4q} Many many years ago, I _used_ to run a free shell service (_Linux of course_). What if I started offering this again? ๐ค
{@https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt>#ldepsea} (#eeldzsa) tilde.town and other similar services are just free UNIX accounts on a server somewhere right?
