Is it gauche to name the hero of a show Yuta or does it only become gauche once a different character makes a Yuta / Yusha pun? Asking for a friend. (Gridman / Chuu2byo)

It is not that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, but that anything is indistinguishable from magic from the perspective of the sufficiently ignorant. Clarke assumes we will lose the red queen's race with polymathy.

When you think about it, all search engines are human flesh search engines, except disjointed in time. fite me

Lovecraft is illustrative of the first half of the 20th century because he represents several seemingly mutually exclusive extremes. Recommend reading Sterling's Pirate Utopia & Stranger Than We Can Imagine together, then Dreams in the Witch House

Bad idea of the day: Sieze the amazon.com domain and point it to the wikipedia article for the Amazon river
I keep reading this narrative where tech backlash only really started in 2017, and... guys, do none of you remember 2010? It's basically been downhill for tech industry PR since 2010, if not 2008.

Was there staff overlap between Lain and Boogiepop Phantom? There's an awful lot of style overlap...
Bad idea of the day: transpose Pretty Hate Machine into a major key, shift every word in the lyrics to the least semantically distant word with a more positive sentiment score, and call the result Pretty Great Machine
Raildex spicy take from a magic practitioner with an engineering degree: watch Railgun all the way through and skip Magidex completely. Ignore Touma when he appears in Railgun. He has never once done anything interesting.
Band name of the day: axis theory
'Worse is better' is not a justification -- it is a tragedy, and one that folks who code in their free time are thankfully immune from needing to contribute to. So, y'know, don't. You're not on a deadline, so make something good, instead of something you regret.
'Worse is better' is a very insidious way of saying 'give up and stop caring', and should never be used as an excuse for anything. Anything that can be defended with 'worse is better' is worse & shouldn't be tolerated.
Pet peeve: when people nitpick rhetorical flourishes in my examples while completely ignoring the main point. Hint: If I bring up the web or the macintosh, that doesn't mean my essay is specifically about the web or the macintosh.

'Free your mind and your ass will follow' is absurdly optimistic. Freedom of mind is necessary but not sufficient for freedom of ass. In the short term, wokeness makes your life harder because you become aware of how bad things are.
