@tkanos Good Morning tkanos. I just wanted to give you a small update: after trying this and also working with Bear.app and Obsidian, I went all in with Apple Notes. It is not markdown, which I do not like, but the all the others things actually make up for it. First I can access them an all platforms via web-browser (still lacks Tags but that's ok), I can send things via short note from iOS and macOS, full text search and OCR work almost perfect.
@screem Good Morning. And, after 7w - did you try the nginx proxy manager? Curious about it, if you did.
Gooood Morning everyone. It has been quite some time that I have checked here. How is everyone doing? Any important things I have missed?
I am done with the laundry for today. Had to iron my trousers and shirts. There was this question from my better-half: "Laundry today or naked tomorrow?"
@movq naja. but as we learned here, some people really do "hate" images on websites :-)
@prologic I read this in German and then used deepl to translate it into English. Hope it still makes sense. But yes, I do think, that in times of oppression, and you remain silent, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. It is difficult, yes, but if we be always silent and do not speak up, then things will go worse.
Super nice. After cleaning up the photos-share on my Synology, I freed up a whooping 60 GB in my off-site backup. That's a relief! I was able to achieve this by converting numerous images and movies into more efficient formats.
@movq thanks a lot.
@prologic Nice words. But do you really think that we all belong to the same species? I heard that there could be reptiles among humans and the center of the earth is inhabited by dragons. 🤣🤪 Or is everything just flat? #jokingAround
Sure, the world is complicated and sometimes it is difficult to talk about things you don't like. And sometimes it is OK to just look away. But there are times, where we should not look away and react. In the end, it is your own decision what you do. Here, in this little knitting yarn universe, a lot of people do good things to help people stay connected.
Personal opinion. His personal opinion. But I have to say, I do understand it. China or NK or Myanmar are not on my list of favorite countries to live in. Maybe visiting China/Hongkong, but for the rest. No, thank you, not interested. But we have to talk about things that happen there. Intervening is a different story.
"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." /Desmond Tutu
@lyse Thanks. I was using this first when I later found out about the sips command on macOS.
@movq THIS is the stuff I was looking for. I was searching around twtxt but couldn't find it as we talked about it the last time—I think we did. Or did I talk to lyse about sth, similar? I can't remember. But this easy to use. Thanks. Btw: which git repo software do you use? Looks nice and easy and slim which could be run on my homelab instead of gitea e.g.
@jim WELCOME!
Just finished listening to FREIHEIT DELUXE. A German podcast about freedom and things around free individual space. I would like to recommend the last part of the current episode with Timothy Snyder, a Levin Professor of History at Yale University. https://www.ardaudiothek.de/episode/freiheit-deluxe-mit-jagoda-marinic/ukraine-spezial-warum-es-um-unsere-freiheit-geht/hr/10468271/ - Skip to 1:15:30. The interview starts soon. A transcript is also available https://download.hr2.de/podcasts/freiheit_deluxe/ukraine-spezial-100.pdf
Cleaning up my iPhone 11. We go on vacation soon, so I need lots of space for photos and videos. I'm also considering replacing my Canon PowerShot SX730HS with an Olympus TG-6. Just to have a tougher cam with me. I am actually afraid of loosing my phone while on a RIP boat. Or I should get case with a strap. Anyone has a recommendation for that?
Oh, My G***! I found my old backup hard rive and on it, "ancient" iPhoto libraries. Dated back in 2008! and earlier. Converting them now to have a look and sort them out. For some of the images, I was looking into generating smaller versions, to show them to my family. Does anyone have a nice script to generate smaller versions or an idea how to do that?***
@prologic @jlj And I might have even more... source for others https://8values.github.io
@novaburst yeah crazy isn’t it? They collect so much and have no idea where it flows. This is a real problem for them when they want to stay in the EU with our strict GDPR rules.
@prologic TXT TXT TXT TXT TXT TXT
@prologic Yes it is, sometimes, But when they get wet, it gets pretty slippery on the bike.
Good Morning. I saw so many nice things on my way to work, but little to no time to stop and take a picture. Sorry. And then, the rain started and I had to go even faster. Glad, that I was already out of city center with all its cobblestone. Thanks to the Dutch that we have so many good cycling paths here.
This is good new for France and definitively for Europe:

@novaburst I know. But I use self hosted WordPress Instances for Journaling, Note-Taking, Blog, Wiki-like Knowledge System. I know the system very well. The main point here is, that I can use it from mobile and desktop and I can host it where I can reach it from any computer which has internet access. How do you do that with all your systems?
I was happy with WordPress, and I am happy with WordPress. Easy for me and I can blog and post while I am at work, at home or from my mobile phone if I like. I tried Bludit (even built themes for it) pelican, Hugo, mynt, jekyyl, makefiles, bashblog and many others. But after a while, I came back to WordPress as it is the one I can use from anywhere. I wish the mobile App hat an offline mode.
Another news: nice move from a - probably - nice guy: _Florida Atheist Petitions to Ban the Bible in Miami-Dade and Broward Schools_ https://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/broward-man-petitions-to-ban-christian-bible-from-eight-florida-school-districts-14335777?rss=1
@mutefall Sure. I will take that into consideration when looking at other countries. Fair enough. I would say :-)
Some Americans are just plain stupid! The "Don't say gay" law is more than just a stupid decision. It will do much more harm to people who identify as LGBTQ people. Disney has this piece of land in Florida that they manage. Also, Disney is pro-LGBTQ. Which is really good. The Republicans are just a bunch of idiots. Let people live how they want.
_So many stories. All that really matters is what we do right now and who we are while we're doing it._ (Spurce Unkown)
@will On which system are you watching?
My #SongOfTheDay Jon Batiste - I NEED YOU - _In this world with a lot of problems, all we need is a little loving!_ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXT00sWwuTQ
ok. I might not buy a new lenovo laptop then.
I do not have ads? Or do you mean those ones, like amazon does promoting own content?
@prologic I am using Lychee. Easy to use. Share albums as you need to. I just created an album with your images, if that is ok for you, to let you see how it looks. https://lychee.homelab.zn80.net/#16503780050855 (Unfortunately, video is not yet officially supported)
Hello @alex. Welcome to the Yarn-World
Easter Fire - The rest of it ;-)
@prologic @mutefall @ullarah *Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life.* - But I feel with you @mutefall. Workplace is nice, the tasks sometimes are not.
@mutefall The Toughbooks are great. If inside is still working and not too old, good replacement. Nobody will steal them, for sure.
@screem good luck with that! I went all in with NGINX Proxy Manager hosted locally on my RPi. Works super well.
Some comments from the lst night:

> Ukraine: Our army sank a Russian ship.
> Russia: No, no, OUR army sank our own ship.

> A former US General said: "The Russian Army showed its incompetence, so that the Russian Navy was jealous and had to show that they are incompetend, too."

> EVERYTHING Russia tries to do is an embarrassment. Even at sport they can only win by cheating and usin drug. The only thing they ARE good at is having a total disregard for human life

It is still a tragedy and so many lifes lost due to a stupid decision a crazy man made.
Dad jokes are meant to be funny, but this made really made me laugh : How do celebrities stay cool? They have many fans.
@prologic He want to make it ad free which I would support. to be honest. I have over 200 accounts on block because they advertised.
@lyse yes, nice isn't it. Nature can just be beautiful.
@prologic I think you did :-). It is quite, in the morning until 8. *laughing smiliy* Then all the parents come out with their screaming and shouting kids. Oh boys, dutch kids make so much noise on their way to school! Also a lot of cars show up dropping of their children. Streets are clogged. Beside that, it is nice neighborhood, yes. Oh, and I would not call it *a village*. Living in a suburb of The Hague.
Good morning. Just scrolling down without reading and only looking at the images, makes me sad :-( https://www.nytimes.com/series/europe-morning-briefing
Let’s go!
@movq that’s good news.
@prologic the Self government will not work. People need rules. Democrats is bad one, but it is the only one that works for long time
@will what’s your new favorite game?
@prologic me neither. Maybe @novaburst just thought: Gemini is so rarely used, it is dark net by not being seen because nobody uses it
@mutefall I. FOUND. A. SOLUTION. to this as well. It is called WebScrapBook and is available as add-on for the major browsers. I tried it yesterday with various websites and it works extremely well. Basically it saves the webpage as it is displayed in your browser as it is while you are looking at it. Including images, video, CSS, fonts etc. (configurable). NYTimes.com works quite well.
@justamoment If you hate your co-workers, just send them this!
@novaburst but before I share via public URL, I just copy paste content and paste it ontl telegr.ph oder hedgedoc and share that. What I really needed was the ability to enter new content on the go. Syncing a TiddlyWiki via Dropbox and accessing it on the Smartphone via Quine2 was not a nice user experience.
@novaburst if you mean the Synology, yes. That NAS is sitting on my Desktop at home. I do sync the smartphone and laptop clients when at home, so I do have all notes with me when I leave. Can create new one on the go and sync when back at home. The biggest selling point for me is the ability to just paste screenshots which was not possible with TiddlyWiki. Bookstack does that too and some other wiki softwares as well, but only NoteStation has clients and can work offline.

I think I found a solution to my Knowledge Base Archiving Problem. Instead of using all kinds of third party things which I need to keep track of and backup by myself, I found the Synology Note Station like something I could really use. First it has WYSIWYG and Paste-Image capability.It syncs to all devices, iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Web-access and I can integrate it into the automatic backup solution Hyper-drive. It works like BookStack which does not have a mobile app. So Win-Win?

@ullarah And that means? Is it just creating accounts to save the name to sell it?
@ullarah And that means? Is it just creating accounts to save the name to sell it? All this crypto bullshit is really making me angry.
It looks like someone is trolling my pod. All these *raini accounts just getting created but never post anything.*

@novaburst Maybe just stick with it. It runs perfectly on the rPi and is made for it. Even if you don't like it that much, why not give it a try and have it running instead of debugging days without getting something done.
Everything Mr. Torgue says :-)
@movq Oh ha. So old. Nice memories.
Journalists around the world have to work a weekend shift because a drunken Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman justifies the invasion of Ukraine by saying that Ukrainian Nazis have banned borscht cookbooks.
(Source) - Watch the video in the tweet.

> Russia Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova decided to justify the bloody victims of the war in Ukraine by the conflict over borscht. https://twitter.com/novayagazeta_eu/status/1512418941695672326
@movq I built once Chromium from sources. On my i5 10th Gen with 32GB RAM all Threads on fire, it took 30 Minutes. Crazy!
@movq OMG NETSCAPE?!?!?
OMG. But in the end everything went fine and you have your new shiny glasses now. So you can see clear now! :-)
Sitting at the dining table with my work laptop, my #BetterHalf suddenly started looking around and also out of the window asking me "Where's this strange noise coming from?" "From my work laptop here" I said. We haven't heard such thing in months since we use MacBook Air M1 devices....

> In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill last week that bans instruction about sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten through third grade. The bill also contains vague wording that opponents worry could lead to broader restrictions, effectively trying to erase L.G.B.T. Americans from school lessons.
> One example: The law’s preamble calls for “prohibiting classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity.” That phrase has led to opponents’ nickname for the law: “Don’t Say Gay.”

Make America Great Again! #sarcasm #weirdpeople
@mutefall Maybe we can have a chat/talk about how you organize your notes? I would be interested in how your system looks and how you work with it.
@tkanos I do like the approach of this, I do not get myself into the habit to go through notes on my phone and transferring them into another system. Maybe I just have not written it clearly in the first place or was not able to express myself correctly. What I am maybe looking for is a system to hoard things. Why? I don't know, I just have the feeling to archive data... #obsession?
@retronav I also tried Obsidian. Just don't like it. But maybe I have a problem with organizing my stuff into categories instead of just tagging them. I still find it difficult to put things into folder where the information might belong to multiple topics.
@tkanos But maybe, I will give it another try.
@tkanos I also tested Notion.so. After two weeks I had fiddled more with the sheer endless amount of options than producing anything useful or using it in a way that i makes sense to me. But I do like the concept of it and the look. But for me, it just tries to be an _egg-laying-milk-giving-woll-producing-pig_. To many things you can do. TL;DR: I got lost in trying out to design something instead of filling it with information.
@prologic I do like it as well, but search and binary data is not a thing and I do not to attach documents from time to time. Haven't found a good solution to that yet. I tried with FileBrowser and describing the internal path to the file location in the document, but it is just too inconvenient for me. Beside that, I have quite a lot of information saved there over the last 2 years, since I joined envs.net
@novaburst That would be one way of doing it. But don't you want to document things sometimes? Or do you save those things as PDF?
@lyse I might have choosen the "medium" option in iOS after choosing the image before the upload. This is why the image is only ~509k and not 3,5M~
https://www.ctrl.blog/entry/pop-up-blocker.html The web is overrun by pop-ups and blockers haven’t worked in years -- Fully Agree on this. I could not have written it in a better way.
@retronav But what about pictures?
@prologic Is there a view to see the users registered with the pod? Moreover, is there an option to disable an account if an account isn't in use anymore, or not used for so-and-so many months?
@novaburst juhu :-)
OMG. The German word 'Putinversteher' now has its own English wikipedia entry. https://www.dw.com/en/german-term-putinversteher-goes-international/a-61381725
Hallo @markraini – Willkommen auf meinen Pod. Fühl dich wie zu Hause. Wenn du Fragen hast, einfach melden.
I just read about "Fine-Tune and Prune Your Phone’s Contacts List". This should be a yearly habit. But the default versions usually included in Apple’s iOS 15 and Google’s Android 12 can be much more useful - providing specific ringtones, travel directions, birthday reminders and more - if you take the time to flesh out the entries for your favorite people.
@prologic Thanks. So many abbreviations these days.
> In the days leading up to the invasion, Trump praised Putin for recognizing Ukraine’s economic and strategic value to Russia. “He’s going to go in and be a peacekeeper,” Trump said. “We could use that on our southern border.” (NYTimes Newsletter)

This is so weird. Invade a peaceful country to become the peacekeeper of things you have done to become one! Insane.
@tkanos May I ask what GCP is?
@justamoment nice. And amazing that people remember all these things.
I just noticed that all my tools are pretty greasy. Due to the weather and the many temperature changes it needs just hand cream. And that leaves now times its traces.
I still don't know which software I should use to build a personal knowledge management system (PKM). Dokuwiki seems nice, I know it well but I can't figure out, why media uploads are not working. TiddlyWiki is awesome, super flexible but media uploads are terrible. Bookstack is nice, nice editor, but I keep spending a lot time figuring out, in which book should I add this piece of information. MediaWiki, baah too old, WikiJS too complicated..... maybe wordpress? Just post things and tag them, including media upload. mmhhh....
“People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware.” (Alan Kay, “Creative Think” 1982)
Dropped of, or better, cycled with the bikes to the bike shop this morning for service. Getting them ready for the bike-season. New tubes, brakes and overall inspection. But, really looking forward on replacing my current front-motor pedelec with a middle-motor one.
@<~duriny https://envs.net/~duriny/twtxt.txt> AUTSCH! Get well, soon. Hope it doesn't hurt too much
Welcome @janeraini to my pod, to this yarn. Feel free to ask if you need help or have problems. We are all here to help. Enjoy and happy posting.
I also have never seen before a duck scratching his/her head with one of his/her legs. Unfortunately I was so surprised that was not fast enough to take a picture of this
I maybe found two new friends? They came really close as I approached the pond to take a picture of them #DucksFromTheNeighborhood
