Managing your distance is an important aspect of sparring. In some situations, you want to work your way in and see how you can fight at a closer distance. Maybe you're more of a long range person or you like to move around. That's fine too but when you're sparring, you want to work on things you may not be comfortable with. This way, you can deal with close range situations and know how to react and counter.
