Back in 2021-06-11 I wrote this on my then main twtxt feed:
2021-06-11T10:20:03.000000Z The matrix protocol is overcomplicated enough that making new implementations isn't really doable. ~martijnbraam at git.sr.ht
I have mixed thoughts about said protocol *cough* "application platform" built on top of "another application platform (Web 2.0)"
I'd say it's still better than Discord but there are even better things than [matrix].
@novaburst these days it's hard to find a matrix room worth its salt. many good bridge rooms to irc, but one can simply bounce on over to irc.
funny how we try to get away from these legacy protocols
only to bridge them into newer and more complicated ones. :shrug
@mutefall Personally I'm not a "fan" of bridging at all. I _thin_ I've made this point very clear over the last few weeks of my "trialing" Matrix (I no longer use Matrix obviously). I find the notion a little silly to be frank. The only thing I would find acceptable is what BitleBee does (does anyone still use it?!) - Whereby you create, own and manage "identities" on other platforms and "bridge" those to your preferred platform.

@mutefall i'm literally only on two rooms, one of them I often chat on IRC, the other on Telegram, nothing else, lol.
@novaburst reasonable. i used to be active in the tor project and fosdem rooms but i find it's easier to just use native irc at times.
@prologic understood. as i've also unpacked, my matrix server is private and serves as a glorified bridge to all these other protocols that people i may or may not know use. from sms to whatsapp to signal. there's a bridge for it. i still use what i prefer, but this at least allows some flexibility for people who may not prefer my preferred protocol.
