@thecanine the name is Russian Ushanka, I believe. My kid bought one for fun—to take to camping, or just to fool around with—even though he will never need it in Florida. 😂
Oh, I see, @thecanine, whoopsidaisy! I've never heard that term before, @fastidious, but I had to laugh at the wonderful story about your kid. :-) Ushankas look pretty cool, so we all have to attest good taste at least.
@fastidious @lyse Yes, that's the right name, don't know how I managed to forget it. I don't have one myself, but we have one that's kinda similar, at the place where my grandparents live.
I still relate to the story though, as I sometimes also just get hats for fun, like the Santa hat, that I got just so I could wear it to school, during the last week before Christmas. It might also come in handy, if he ever decides to travel to some place where it's cold. 🙃
@thecanine I'm particularly a fan of cowboy hats, they just look so awesome and are even useful in summer. In fact I tried to make my own out of leather twice (please excuse that I never heard of shaving back in the days). But, these experiments must been considered failures, as the hats were too heavy and I got headache after a couple of minutes wearing them. :-( So I didn't apply the finishing touches. I still have the brown one, not sure, what happened to the black hat, though.
