Making friends and influencing people 😳
@jlj I'm not sure I follow what happened there πŸ˜‚ Care to fill us in ? πŸ€”
@jlj I'm not sure I follow what happened there πŸ˜‚ Care to fill us in ? πŸ€”
Oh, wow; in-line is not a good look for that. A chance to try the other display formats, clearly! ^x^
@jlj looks like a "lovely" place to hang out. :-D Where is that taking place, on Discord, Matrix, or some other network?
@jlj having problems making friends and influencing people, I can relate 😁

I think I will be influencing friends and making people
@prologic I'd sent a Discord admin a proposal about bridging a Matrix room of similar theme with a channel on their server. Got shot down. Then a third party raised the idea independently in a chat later, and I replied with enthusiasm, but also repeating what the admin had told me. At which point the admin jumped in the chat to slap me. πŸ˜…
@fastidious antiwork Discord
@eaplmx double tick for me! πŸ˜‚
@jlj sorry for what I'm going to say. For my work I use mostly Discord, never used Matrix.
Besides privacy, do you see it as a replacement for productivity, a la Slack?
@eaplmx Maybe eventually. They've made impressive inroads in the German public sector, for example. But both Discord and Slack are still slicker imo. Enabling experimental features in the flagship client brings it a lot closer already, though!
@fastidious @jlj Yeah, it's Discord, I'd recognize it any day, but if you're using it in the mode without profile pictures, than you're using it wrong! πŸ₯΄
@jlj I've never used Slack, but from what I've heard, it seems like one of the worst choices, though even Discord is sadly getting greedy-er with every update.
@thecanine I do not know of any big enterprise using Discord for anything. Slack, on the other hand, is widely used at the enterprise level. Slack is pretty slick, and was a favourite at my work place for many years until management sold their soul to Microsoft, hence we ended up using Teams.
@fastidious What businesses use is usually the worst option, as proven by the Microsoft example. Teams are being shoved down all of our throats and despite the fact I hate Apple, I have to admit that I don't think anyone but Microsoft would be able of making something, that fail at being an app this hard - to the point where I'd consider it malware, or at the very least bloatware, that I couldn't bring myself to keep installed on my machine and now refuse to use outside a somewhat isolated browser, running incognito mode.
For the record, I hate Slack (but it's the standard for techie companies), Discord is good enough for us (giving classes, creating games for hobby and as a profession).
Aaaand I agree Teams/Skype is the worst. Still thinking about knowing more about Matrix as a future replacement!
@thecanine Windows itself is a telemetry riddled piece of malware.

But that's a yarn for another day.
@ullarah I always go out of my way to opt-out of any data collecting thing they try to push and use a WinOptimizer (from Ashampoo) designed to block and sabotage as much telemetry as possible, in hopes that it at least gives me some level of anonymity. But I know the average user doesn’t even read those things and just clicks "Next" until Windows setup finishes with the default options - to track everything.
