@movq it is! If you live with someone, I bet they hate you when you stay late at night on the computer, because she sure is loud. She makes for a good home defence weapon too; you could knock down anyone with her, and she will not even have a scratch. 😂
@david It’s simple. Anybody who dislikes that sound is not a suitable partner anyway. 😈

@movq Oh cool, who did you steal her from? :-)
@lyse Bought it from a colleague. 😊

According to the label, this keyboard was built in April 1991. That’s a bit younger than my other Model M, which was built in June 1989. And yet, both of them are still kicking. That’s the kind of quality I’d like to see. 👌

@movq Must be an awesome work mate. Now you have two Model Ms!? One for the hands one for the feet. That's how you easily double efficiency! Sadly, this long lasting life won't happen to any of the modern keyboards.
@lyse I don't know about that. I think there's still a lot of good keyboard out there to buy these days.
Mechanical keyboards have gotten popular again, meaning there's a lot of them to choose from and some seem pretty well built. Even some of the modern rubber dome ones feel nice, if you pay a bit extra and get a good one.
Nothing these days, and I mean nothing, is built like that keyboard. Should you ever held one in your hands—heck, you almost need your arms to hold it—you will know exactly what I am talking about. This is the kind of keyboard you will find on nuclear silos. It is the kind of keyboard you want on a zombiecalypse, if you don't have an aluminium bat. It is just, pretty much, indestructible. Yet, a pleasure to use.
@lyse Yeah, I have two of them now. 😅 But: The one from 1989 is kind of a “family heirloom”. My grandpa brought it back home from work, together with an IBM PS/2 Model 30. (We also had that standard mouse, but we threw it away at some point. 🙄) That was one of my first PCs. And it came directly from IBM (my grandpa worked there – I think I mentioned that at some point). We gifted the machine to someone else a looooooong time ago. That keyboard is all that’s left. So, it holds quite a bit of personal value and I don’t want to risk damaging it by using it on a daily basis. 😅 Coffee gets spilled and all that.
Due to that history, I have some warm-and-fuzzy feelings towards IBM and I very briefly worked there myself as an intern (in the same building even). It’s sad to see that the company is … well, let’s say, it’s struggling. They killed off so many of their sectors and even that building doesn’t exist anymore.

@movq So you put your grandpa's keyboard in a display cabinet? I think I never touched a real one, but looking at the build quality it's probably impossible to ruin it with your drinks. ;-)
@lyse You know what, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. 👌 😊
