Since switching to Linux almost a decade ago, I've found offline music management (tagging) to be my biggest struggle, coming from Foobar2000 on Windows. No solution on Linux comes close to Foobar2000 and my music library has stagnated as a result.

And so, I am instead storing all music information (artist, title, year, etc.) in file names and retiring the practice of tagging altogether. I refuse to host a separate Windows machine to do this.
@stutteringsteve Why not run a Plex instance on your LInux machine or even an MPD daemon? 🤔 Or have I misunderstood your problem?

@stutteringsteve I use DeaDBeeF as a linux alt. to foobar2000.
@stutteringsteve I have to confess, I never fully understood this tagging business. 🤔 I just have a directory per artist, then a directory per album (then maybe a directory per CD, if it’s more than one). Alright, no, that’s a lie. I do have additional playlists (m3u files) for certain genres. 🤔 Good thing of this is that it doesn’t require *any* particular player …

Did you try this ?
@stutteringsteve Yes, I organize it in the filesytem like @movq describes. But additionally I try to tag the files too, so that the entry in the player looks alright. I don't have playlist files, though.
