@novaburst Yeah well I agree with most of the points here, bt it honestly isn't as bad as the author makes out. I _think_ what we're doing here at Yarn.social is bringing back those communities (slowly but surely). It's all about the "invectives" and since we're not being driven by money, we _can_ actually do good things here.

@novaburst @prologic
i think the interpretation is subjective. for myself the web died long ago. i just read text to obtain the information i am seeking. really sifts out the cruft.
many netizens equate the internet to the web which is a fundamental inaccuracy.
i hope one day people will start moving to more sustainable technology that's been here all along :-)
@mutefall Yeah this is true, we often mistake and confuse the Web and Internet which are entirely two different things altogether. I _think_ the author here _might_ also be guilty of that? I'm not sure đ¤
But yeah, it is possible to build better more sustainable (both human and environmental) tools, products and services that serve useful purposes to people.
That's my belief anyway đ

Funny how the author doesnât mention Usenet at all. Instead he praises web forums. Forums were constantly ridiculed by the old timers who were very active on Usenet, âbut these days, only shitty web forums existâ.
Things just shift. I wonder if thereâs going to be a point where we all collectively miss reddit, because it has been replaced by something else.

@movq I agree with simple, lightweight design. No bloat.
@movq you should think kev would be from an era where nntp was still relevant.
this old-timer appreciates forums and nntp. i will not miss reddit.
@prologic it's a nice vision which i share in many respects. but getting there is the journey. perhaps before we get planted in the ground, ja?
