I managed to get Portal with RTX to run on my computer even though I have a several-years-old NVIDIA GPU. I get about 30 fps with reasonably nice looking graphics settings, which isn't bad given that this is basically a tech demo to show off NVIDIA's brand new high-end GPUs. Full realtime path tracing looks amazing! Given the amount of computation required, it's mind-boggling this can be done at 30 fps--that means 30 times per second the GPU can compute a 3444x1440 frame and fire that at the monitor, which requires tracing the paths of simulated beams of light for each one of those pixels (modulo a bunch of optimizations and tricks of course).
