@lyse You don't really expect my children to use this do you? 😅

@prologic I really don't think so, as even Googles attempts to filter out content inappropriate for children failed miserably. As far as I know, the only front-end that even comes anywhere close to your requirements is Invideous, but unless you're willing to give up child filers and see some trending, you'd probably have to fork it and change quite a few things.
@thecanine Yeah I'm not really seeing much out there that does what I need 😢

@prologic Why not? You told us your daughter likes programming with her dad, doesn't she? So terminal use would be a next good skill to pick up. :-)
But on a wee bit more (not much) serious note, you could probably rig something up with yt-dlp. Build a web interface or something.
@prologic Invidious might satisfy these requirements: https://invidious.io
It's worth noting, though, that Youtube is right now in the process of locking itself down and it might not be long before all third-party frontends stop working. Similar to what twitter and reddit are doing.
@prologic I guess you could use VLC, it technically meets all your requirements, except it might be hard to use for kids...
@shreyan I don't think VLC is suitable here either. I'm seeing if Invidious _can_ really do what I want, but I really need to figure out if I can block comments and trending from "the world".

@prologic Maybe making some kind of video viewer and downloading the youtube channels you'd like your kids to be able to see.
@jmjl Yeah I've seen some attempts at this, wasn't able to get them to work though, but I think that's probably arguably better in some ways 👌

Have you tried the browser plugin **DF YouTube (Distraction Free)** ? Both available for Firefox and chrome
Alternatively you can set up a RSS reader and follow the approved channels for them.
