@deadblackclover i noticed on your codeberg profile you had a repo for guix
. are you using it? i had stumbled upon nixos
a few years back and really enjoyed it. to me it's more granular control than arch which i currently am riding on. i was planning to switch a while back but having one usable machine with the hardware i'm using was limiting.
@mutefall So you're using NixOS now? Me too! 😉
I made the switch by setting it up first in VirtualBox, then copied the configuration.nix
and used it directly on a new install on my actual PC, the transition wasn't much trouble either.
@justamoment i'm very close to switching. userspace configuration is all there, but need to work on some of the network plumbing (i've got multiple meshes) and some overall hardware bits. as silly as this sounds i may take a day off this week to make it all work.
i did the same prep work as you did in kvm. took me a while to dial things to a usable state. but it works pretty well! very lightweight which is nice and super easy to swap wm/de
@mutefall Thats right!
Maybe installing it in dual boot or on a usb drive or sd card, can help you set up on the hardware part.
@justamoment brilliant thought! or plug in an old scratch ssd as a boot disk :shrug
@mutefall Yes, i mentioned USB and SD cards because they are what I use for installing nowadays I also have a TinyCore Linux on a old 512Mb SD card with persistence that works flawlessly as a recovery OS.
With my old phone I even used an app to install the live CD and writable in my phone using an app for Android rooted devices to use as a portable recovery or persistent USB hub, I don't remember the name but I can look it up if you. want.
@justamoment great idea, thank you. i'll give this a try when i'm not trying do 74 things without coffee
@mutefall I don't drink coffee at all, yet other people still call me a developer. 🥸
Anyway, here the app i mentioned: DriveDroid
@justamoment i'm having to exit the coffee game. may explore some herbal teas. appreciate the link!
@mutefall You're welcome!
Just go with black tea and you'll be fine! ✌️
@justamoment i've always enjoyed black tea. i still have to watch the caffeine content. i picked up some rooibos tea recently and have enjoyed it.
