@adi I'd have to agree though. I mean I'm sure there's still plenty of decent people on there, but man did the site itself go down the drain. Used to be such a simple and fast interface, then they went full web 2.0 or whatever, trackers galore, popups encouraging (or enforcing...) the mobile app when on a mobile browser. Pretty horrendous :( I use Teddit to browse it lately.
@adi @eldersnake To me, the new Reddit interface always looked like a spam site.

@adi Agree about the new Reddit interface. As for _tildes_, nah I'm not, isn't it invite only?
@adi @eldersnake Oh man Reddit is total garbage π Itβs an accessibility nightmare π³

@jlj Awesome, thanks man, I would like one if it's not too much trouble. It does look like a decent little community (hopefully stays that way π

@eldersnake Finally got around to watching this. Whilst I admire Luke's perspective here, he really just went on and on, and really to me came across as quite negative. I mean c'mon, it's not all that bad. We _could_ do something about it. Take https://search.marginalia.nu/ for example or my own attempt https://spyda.dev -- Yes I agree Reddit is garbage, Bookface is trash and advertising business models is _really_ what's caused a lot of the utility of the Web to become as bad as it had, we _can_ change it!

@prologic Yeah, he did seem a little bit negative, more than usual. As an aside, TBH I'm seeing a bit of a trend lately of people seeming to just "give up", in the face of Big Tech. Whether it be privacy related, search, standards, whatever. Like it's all too hard and just not worth trying to compete or offer alternatives. It's not good; that's what the big corps would want.
@eldersnake Why give up though? π€ The more the hyperscalers and tech giants keep hyping up their "shit" the more they'll push people over the edge. There _will_ always be a market, even if it's a niche market that only attracts a small % of users locally or globally. Why not? π€ Take for example Yarn.social... We've managed to grow it at a rate of a few pods every few months, new users every few days and posts in the hundreds per day, all on a zero $ budget and i don't think we plan to stop there π

That's a cop out and #looser talk π I don't believe in giving up π

@prologic I agree! Rome wasn't built in a day, and even if people just chip away, trying alternatives (or creating them), it's better than nothing. That's one of the reasons I appreciate what you're doing here with Yarn.social.
@eldersnake Well it's one thing to chip away, but it's another thing to have a vision and to stick to it and keep going and percerviging not matter what. I plan to do exactly that, I'm not ready yet, Yarn.social is the most polished product so far, but there are loads of others in the pipeline.
