Hello everyone! Been looking for somewhere to migrate from twitter.
I found yarn.social , I initially wanted to self host it, but I could not get it to run, I'll look into that later on.
Decided to join here first now, and get a feel for this place.
Hope you all are having a great weekend!
Do anyone of you run this on #openBSD ? I want to migrate my current VPS over to that, and move my website ( https://stigatle.no ) to a static site, and then it would be nice to have Yarn running there as well. I have to give that a try one of these days.
Also, once I have it hosted on my own server I want to migrate my 14.5k tweets over.
You will need the latest golang, plus ffmpeg, to compile it. I believe @adi runs it on a BSD flavoured OS, so he can chime in on this.\n\nOh, and welcome!
@adi @fastidious thank you. I tried on debian, and ubuntu earlier today, but did not compile. Ill try on openBSD tomorrow, would be nice to get that working. I want to move from my current vps over to openbsd.amsterdam and have my own yarn instance hosted there.
What were the errors? I compiled it fine (after fixing a couple of things which I cannot recall) on Ubuntu 20.04. Let me know, and I will do what I can to help you compile it.
@fastidious Thank you, I was able to build it now, I was missing a couple of things.
The packages I installed (complete list) was:
apt-get install ffmpeg libswscale-dev libavformat-dev libavutil-devel libavcodec-dev
after that it compiled, working through a terminal on my server, but I'll get it up and running later tonight, at least now I have it compiled.
I think we should add these to the compilation instructions, so that others save time by quickly getting the required packages installed, makes it easier for the next person trying to do the same.
@stigatle I agree that the compile documentation is lacking. Ideally binaries are released and all is good and dandy. @prologic has been having issues building them, that’s why there is none for download. \n\nGlad you got it to build! You will have to do that often, as fixes and features get added. 😂
@fastidious @prologic No worries, I understand.
@fastidious @prologic And just for the record, it was ' libavutil-dev' and not 'libavutil-devel' I wrote that one wrong in my previous reply.
So the complete list was:
apt-get install ffmpeg libswscale-dev libavformat-dev libavutil-dev libavcodec-dev
@stigatle @prologic neat, thanks! Twts—unlike tweets—can be edited. I tend to forget too. ☺️
@stigatle Hey there! 👋 Welcome to my pod🤗

@prologic Thank you! And thanks for running this, I really like it here.
@stigatle Lemme know if you need a hand with setting up your pod. etc 🤗 I can jump on a call or IRC or whatever 👌
