I made the mistake of not going to see an ophthalmologist for many years. Now my old doctor has nuked me from their database – and they don’t take new patients.
In fact, none of the ophthalmologists I called so far take new patients. 🙄 Might take a while until I find one … 😩
(Dude, “ophthalmologist”, what a word. In Germany, we call them “eye doctors”. 😂)

😮
I didn't know of that kind of problem... I hope you find a doctor soon!
And on the word, Augenheilkunde sounds too foreign to me 😅.
Here everything is -logist (from Greek), I think we just got used to it 👓
But yeah... Eyes doctor, throat doctor, and so on, would be much better.

@eapl.me I wondered how you ended up with “Augenheilkunde”, but apparently the german wikipedia redirects from “Augenarzt” (that’s the person, an ophthalmologist) to “Augenheilkunde” (that’s how you call the field, ophthalmology). 😅
Finding a specialist doctor in germany can be difficult. Not just eye doctors, but all of them. And when I *do* find a new doctor, I expect to have to wait for several months until I get an appointment. According to this statistic, there are only about 8.4 ophthalmologists for every 100'000 people in this country (in 2020). What the heck, isn’t that a bit low? 😂
You still get help in cases of emergency (afaik, they are even required by law to help you *if* it’s an emergency). Luckily, that’s not the case for me. Technically, I can wait. Still annoying. 😅

hehe, interesting.
In Spanish 'oftalmólogo' is the person, and 'oftalmología' the discipline.
I couldn't imagine 'Augenarzt' and 'Augenheilkunde' were so related, makes me wonder how the language makes us think.
I just translated 'oftalmólogo' and got the longer word 😆
@movq I reckon that's the downside of data protection. Or they might have just used this as a welcome excuse.
