I overheard a wonderful piece of wisdom I _think_ anyone in a position of leadership should really be mindful of:
> The entire point of having a company is to build trust in your employees.

@prologic can you elaborate, please
Build trust in your employees for what? What's the purpose of that trust?
@eaplmx Sure I'll try my best 😅 But fair warning, I am by no means an expert in this field whatsoever, in fact I'm probably very wrong 😂 But...
In my humble opinion, if you intend to run a company or a small business and hire or employ someone to help you (_or even if you seek to recruit contributors to an open source project_) -- You should seek to trust them to do the right thing, trust their judgement, listen to their opinions and potentially differning points of views, etc.

Running a company myself (a micro-company of fewer than 10 employees), I thought the Why, what for? Is the entire point, and the trust is 'for granted' to pursue that meaning and purpose.
But I get your point. The trust that we are going in the same direction, makes everything work as we expect.
I think there are (at least) two ways:
The employee as a mean, or the employe as an end. Usually, the purpose of a company is to make money, and the employee is the tool (disclaimer: I don't agree completely).
For me, now, the team is extremely important, mainly for industries based on talents, like design or programming. There, trust is extremely important, because how do you measure creativity? How do you trust that the programmer is doing their best work to create a stable system?
Yes, work is transactional. I work 8 hours a day, I receive X dollars a month, but also we are together because we believe and trust in the same values.
@eaplmx
> we believe and trust in the same values
That is precisely correct, as a leader one must set goals and a "grand vision" that everyone can align and relate to. Without this there is literally nothing, just a bunch of people running around with their heads chopped off 😂 Next you have to trust, mentor and demonstrate by example the values you believe in. Companies are like little countries, they have their own culture, their own rules, their own currency, etc. But there's always more than one way to skin a cat (_run a company_) and I personally prefer the model that is built around trust, ownership, transparency and a "Get Shit Done"™ mentality without all the layers of complexity and bureaucracy (_red tape_) you typically see everywhere.

@prologic "Skin a cat", never heard that! 😸
@prologic Agreed! It's difficult as hell, but in the long run (if we survive as an indie company), it's better what you say
