When sparring, there will be times when you will not move around as much, whether it be by choice or circumstance. When you're not focused on doing much footwork, you can stand your ground more and be stationary. This allows your opponent to hit you more but it also allows you to find ways to block and counter rather than just relying on evasive footwork.
