From #yarn.social
on IRC, a crazy idea I had on a different type of timeline:
- Someone posts twt A, it shows as normally on timeline, newest atop.
- Someone posts twt B, it shows as normally on timeline, newest atop.
- Someone replies to twt A, it doesn't show on timeline, yarn count increases on twt A, and twt A goes atop, as the latest replied to yarn.
- Rinse and repeat.
This approach will make the timeline less busy, and much easier to understand. What do you all think?
By the way, something like this already happens on *jenny*, for example. With *mutt* configured to show collapsed threads, sorting by threads, newest replied on top, the above "crazy idea" is exactly what you see.
@fastidious I think it makes a lot of sense and I approve! π€£
the only difficulty of course is that we really need to find a UI/UX developer to join the project π

@prologic we need one nevertheless, yes, but this change is no different from what we already have without much UI/UX innovation/change.
@fastidious Agreed, we can do a simple implementation of this π

Hey! I'm here and I consider myself a UI/UX developer π¬
I had similar ideas to make the timeline less messy by hiding reply-posts.
So let's try this idea. Maybe add the time ago for the latest reply.
Also I think this should be separate from the normal timeline. Something like "collapsed timeline". Or the old render should be called "timeline with replies"
@darch Oh ooops sorry π I thought your day job was a librarian π Iβm an SRE / Software Engineer π

@prologic it is, but I do the webfrontend for the library's digital platforms
@fastidious I don't think that's a good idea. It'd make keeping up with replies almost impossible.
At best I can see it working if there was a Twitter like switch between show replies and hide replies on these pages, but even than I'm not really sure if that wouldn't negativity effect the conversation. π€
@thecanine I like the idea of some kind of toggle replies on/off just to try this feature out
@thecanine you wrote "*Itβd make keeping up with replies almost impossible.*" as the opposite of what it is now, having to often---and seemingly constantly---to click on each twt yarn, just to go to the same yarn you saw before? I mean, you even refuse to use web/mobile web! π
By the way, I have also hunt for replies from you because somehow (and I don't know why) none of your mentions are really mentions.
@fastidious Yeah, I'm following you but the mentions are now somewhat broken. I'm not refusing to use the site, I use the site pretty often as well, I just sometimes use the mobile app, because that's easier for me to use when I'm on mobile and don't already happen to be using the browser on it. π
@fastidious One last test to see if I can now mention you from the mobile app.
No, looks like that's still boken, but at least it works from the web. π₯΄
@thecanine The mobile appβs mentions are broken I think π₯
