@fastidious Dinkelsbühl is quite a nice medieval town, which is worth visiting next time you're in Germany: 
Dinkelsbühl Not only do they have cool timer-framed houses and stone watchtowers and such, but all the shop signs are in nice German type. Also big companies such as Tchibo are required to use that font on their house fronts. Looks quite weird at first, but very cool. Also Nürnberg comes to mind when talking medieval.
