@prologic the research, trial, and bringing a vaccine to market takes money. Lots of money. I am OK with them [companies behind vaccines, and medical drugs, etc.] making what is fair in return. I understand fair comes with a profit as well.
Yeah the main point is how these vaccine companies try and maximize their profits and put up roadblocks until they get what they want, not so much about whether the public is paying for them or not.

Yeah this is what I have a problem with basically. What about the suffering people? Can't we put the health, safety and longevity of our species and planet first over questionable sums of something called "an economy"? 🤔

@eldersnake isn't that what capitalism is all about? They also have investors (as little as you and me), that are counting on them to do well, so their money---albeit much, much, much less---also grows.
@fastidious Yeah you're right. This is basically capitalism at work here. Maybe we should be focusing on instead the concept of "Don't be evil" ala Google™? Maybe that's more fitting and describes our outcry and distaste for the behaviour of _some_ of these companies? 🤔

@fastidious Yeah that tends to be how capitalism is, but I'm not sure I like it in this context, exactly. Obviously things like vaccines need plenty of funding, but driving up costs and treating it like any other 'product' to make absolute bank seems like a kinda dick move and as @prologic says, will just trickle down as increased taxes etc. I don't know what the answer is. It's always the same problem with these big corporations - it's like thermal runaway, but with money.

What I was the most disappointed with was the unwillingness to even consider working wits some smaller labs to produce more of it, when they were so hard to get. This also kinda helped the conspiracy theories spread because "if the virus was so deadly, would they really care about their profit this much", than the way they worded the fact that "they don't take any responsibility after you take the vaccine" only added to this problem.
I'm not saying the vaccine itself is bad, I took it as soon as I could in this country (this summer) and I'm really glad I did, especially when looking at all the numbers and statistics now, seeing how much less likely you're to end up in a hospital after taking it.
