@lyse It might look boring, but an MRI could tell us a lot about what’s going on inside the mouth and at the back of the tongue. That’s where overtone selection/amplification happens, which plays a major role, especially in these kinds of crazy vocals. Super low growls or “demonic” voices or whatever, they all boil down to overtone selection that our brain isn’t used to, so we’re perceiving them as weird and baffling.
