Ah, damn … I have that nice split keyboard, which I really love (I use it more than my Model M 😅), but it’s actually *two* USB devices. Wayland compositors usually struggle with this. 😢 When Wayland really hits big time, I’ll have to look for another model … Let’s hope the keyboard just breaks in the meantime, otherwise it’s gonna feel a little bit frustrating.

@movq Shouldn't it just work as it should be recognized as two HID devices, just that they only type half the keys?
@jmjl Yes, kind of – I can type on the individual halves, but Shift on the left part plus some letter on the right part doesn’t work. 🫤

@movq That's pretty
weird, I have been able to replicate this using two keyboards. You
could use interception to make those two keyboards act as one.

See section 2.2.5 from this page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Interception-tools, for more information.
@jmjl It depends on the compositor. I tried Hyprland earlier and it exposed the problem.

Never heard of interception-tools, looks promising. 🤔 Thanks!

@movq I was able to
replicate it in sway. No problem ⌨️
@jmjl Sway does indeed work as expected. 👌

For (my) future reference: Whether or not my keyboard works in a (wlroots) Wayland compositor depends on whether that compositor uses wlroots’s keyboard groups: https://github.com/swaywm/wlroots/pull/1771

Interestingly, this isn’t such a crazy rare scenario after all, see this comment regarding XF86MonBrightness*: https://github.com/swaywm/wlroots/pull/1771#issuecomment-515507790
