Well this is the response I got from the author of the book "Scaling Up" by

> James – there is no way to protect a PDF from being copied. Amazon and iTunes are two great ways to get e-copies of the book.

So basically:

- I cannot pay money for a DRM-free version of the book.
- There is no trust.
- There are no other options besides privacy eroding garbage like Amazon.

Great! 🤦‍♂️ Fuck me what a fucking stupid world! 🤬

@prologic, of course there is no trust, why will it be? Amazon, and Apple Books are two of the biggest. Adobe Reader would work too, as it has a way to protect the PDF, I figure.
@fastidious Well the issue at hand goes much deeper really. If we can't create a society based on trust, if we can't create a community that helps one another, if we can't form social bonds, if there are no morals and ethics, and so forth... What is the point?! 🤦‍♂️ -- I have written proof that I offered to pay this person good money (_more than he makes on a Paperback_) for a PDF version of his book. He said no. Okay fine, I guess I won't read his book then. Simple 🤣

To be honest, DRM on books is just stupidly ineffective, which I can prove, even by pointing out that this very book can already be downloaded in PDF from quite a lot do "book archival sites".

I'm not going to just throw the PDF up here, as I don't think the author deserves that, but if you want a DRM free copy, you can throw him the $15 somehow and either read it in browser at booksvooks.com or download the PDF from z-lib.org.
