> Yes, you donβt need WhatsApp, Signal, Messenger, or any other app. Old SMS/MMS does the job.
Aside from the fact that a) The "packet space" used here was never designed for this purpose (was abused as such) and b) its 100% in the clear, totally insecure and non-private or even authentic in any way shape or form (the MIN/MSIN can be completely faked and is regularly)

@prologic yet, it is used by all banks, all investment companies, all social media, the government, etc. I donβt have a problem with it. I use it on family groups that have one or more Android users (we have separate groups for all iOS). I also use it for the previously mentioned services.
I am OK with the insecurity, non-privacy aspect it, just as I am with email. It is a known known.

I am not. Why? Simple π
Think of the many numerous "Phishing" attacks that occur, actually now being dubbed "Smishing" π -- Identity theft, fraud and scams are some of the biggest problems in the world in our space -- Which in more recent times leads to enormous ransoms for data. π±

@prologic number of times those have occurred to me? Zero. You must understand, sometimes there is no choice. US Social Security agency uses SMS/MMS verification. My bank does too, after OTP. The list goes on. Now, if you go off the grid, then maybe. Just maybe.
@david You are right of course about the "forced to use" π’
