@prologic because I really can't bare to listen, and I understand he is a comedian, is he truly defending Joe, or sarcastically pretending to do it, or what? Again, I can't handle this type of comedy, but I am curious about you linking it.
@david So... No. He isn't necessarily defending Joe here and neither am I. I linked it because this fellow Aussie is highlighting an important message. The last few years has seen an ever increasing level of censorship, cancel culture, corporate interests and a growing trend of silencing critics and debates.
I have a huge problem with all of this. The path we as a society are heading down is a very dangerous one. If we are not allowed to speak, discuss, criticise, debate or question, then I don't see a very bright future for my children 😢

@prologic would you call disallowing access to Facebook, or Snapchat, to your children censorship? Would you call not aligning yourself to Neonazis censorship? Wouldn't you agree that stopping people spreading misinformation—misinformation with the potential to kill many, or cause harm—is worth "censoring"? There are things to which you simply put a stop. Some people and/or their ideas are not up for debate. Do you think any amount of debate will make your old man stop believing on his religion?
@david But who gets to decide? 🤔 As a fellow parent you should know that I make choices for my children when they are young, but I teach them the meaning of having choices, questioning their rality around them, valuing their privacy, security and freedoms. Respecting others, and so forth.
This isn't about misinformation or that potential harm that can have. In fact misinformation is big business* and corporate propaganda and lies about competing business are all far too common today. Let's not forget that.*

We keep living in this bubbles of "this person said X" and "that person said Y" and it's all "misinformation" but we forget to question the intent and source behind the stories, the narratives and far too often the intentional deceit.
Without debate, without expressions and discourse, what do we have left?

And let's be clear here about my stance on this... What really annoys me is not whether or not person X is vaccinated or person Y is not, it's the selfish people that go out willingly and knowingly sick and ill with god knows what with no regard for anyone else around them. I felt this way even _before* the pandemic. Nobody seems to really follow the "If you're unwell, stay home" unwritten rule. 🤦♂️
Anyway, the point was not about the pandemic or so-called "misinformation" (_what is this anyway?!_) -- But this dangerous trend of not being allowed debate, think, etc._*

@prologic I am with you on the selfish point. For the vaccination, I do think people should get it as we do for all the other stuff as well. But the "being selfish" is a good point I totally agree with you. I think the Asian people do it a lot better. When you are sick, wear a mask to protect the others when you really, really need to leave the house.
@prologic we are not talking about "big business" or "corporate propaganda", unless you consider Joe that. Joe has misinformed. Joe has hosted people who seek to misinform, and spread misinformation and lies. Joe has engaged in "propaganda and lies". He has encouraged it, either because he truly aligns to them, or for profit; either way the end result is damaging and bad. Boycotts have existed since I have memory; some have worked, some haven't. The tubes has simply made it easier to boycott someone/something.
The problem goes beyond Joe, and COVID. There are people doing harm, and trying to do harm, each day (including politics, environment, finances, religions, you name it!). Their message of hate, and harm gets amplified by the internet, and gullible people eats it. Weak minded believes it. Each of us gets to decide. Each of us bears the responsibility.
@david Joe is the alternative to corporate propaganda. His show is about having longform, genuine conversations with people and allowing the viewers to make their own decision, and there's a great deal of intellectual diversity in the guests. CNN brings a guest on for 30 seconds to agree with whatever the host just read off the teleprompter.
Also I don't really regularly watch any of Joe's podcast, but I'm not really aware of him purposefully misinforming his viewers or flat out lying.
He's quite unpopular amongst the mainstream narrative that's for sure and regularly brings on guests from both sides. But beyond that? 🤔

@mckinley I get it; the "big, fake media" is the bad one (with the exception of Fox and OAN, and any other alike), and outfits like Joe have genuine conversations.
@david I don't think he said "fake", but rather, guests are often brought on to just agree with the narrative already established 😅 C'mon 😉 You probably don't see it the way some of us down under do, where here in Australia our media is basically owned by Murdoch. We have no independent media left anymore, even the ABC has been stripped of all their funding, so much so they don't even have decent furniture in the offices anymore 😢

@david I didn't say that. Corporate media organizations on all sides are guilty of this.
