@jlj Oh π³ Curious why you didn't just write the blog post on your yarn pod? π€ (_only curious in case of missing features, some UX issue, etc..._)

@prologic Guilt, mostly, that I (hastily) bought a three-year subscription last year and never use it. π write.as is a good service, but, now, given what I know and want to learn, even if I wasn't happy with my pod's excellent blogging platform (for some odd reason), my next choice would definitely be generating something static with mkws
rather than a hosted service like that. Oh well, live and learn.
@jlj All good π Was mostly just interested in if I could make the βbloggingβ (full) feature better π€

@prologic \n> Was mostly just interested in if I could make the βbloggingβ (full) feature better\n\nMost certainly. Even thought I have no interest in having blogs mixed with twtxt (if it were up to me, I would get rid of it), the blog feature in Yarn is lacking. It is obscured (hidden under user's profile), it is just a weirdly named bulleted list, there is no navigation from post to post, or from post to "main" blog page. It is just... not so good---being nice and all. π
@fastidious I also agree with removing the blogging feature.
@fastidious Case of "less is more" eh? π€£ Happy to accept criticisms π If it's really that awful and no-one _really_ uses it, I'm more than happy to remove it π

@prologic yeah I have also been speaking for removing the blog features along with the private messages and have yarn.social only focus on being a great twtxt client/server solution. blogs an chat are abundant available already.
@darch 100% agreed. Let's not be apprentice of many, master of none.
Alright. The community has spoken πββοΈ

@adi I'm not sure celebration is the emotion I'd express for the removal of my hard work that _did_ serve a purpose (_I did use it a fair bit and still would_) but oh well π

@prologic Don't morn for what you remove, but rejoice for what's left! ππ
what will happen with the blogposts we have already created here on twtxt.net?
@darch They'll go to Blog Heaven! I so happen to have a tool for generating blogs. Maybe you'd prefer moving them somewhere else. π
@darch I can provide theΒ original Markdown files. Otherwise the content will remain untouched, but inaccessible.

π’\n\nCool. I'll make sure to pull my posts off before upgrading. As you say, @prologic, the community has spoken! :-)
@jlj Indeed π I'll hve to do the same, and maybe re-post them to my prologic.blog account with micro.blog π€£ _sigh_ Anyway it's also a nice blogging "platform" but like most things (_sadly_) is a centralised SaaS, not Self-Hostable π’ It's a bit of a silo and uses Hugo under the hood so *meh*. Maybe I'l take over my domain at some point and just turn my prologic.blog into a state site of blog articles? π€ (_also smells of effort_)

@prologic I already backed up my two blogpostπ and thanks @adi I bealve I head about some awesome tool of yours somewhere on this thing called the internet
@prologic maybe it could be a separate thing, like blogs.twtxt.net that'd just show all the blogs from the users and be it's own thing, but not really actively developed until the time for it comes or something. π€
@thecanine I _think_ it's enough that users can add arbitrary links to their profile (_supported by the metadata spec_) and be done with it. i.e: Just point people to your blob, wherever it is to read all the juicy walls of text and bedtime stories π€£

, I would be more than happy to relieve you of $5/month. π€ Also, you can host your blog, CV, yarn.social pod on a single domain. π
@adi There is only so much time in a day my friend π€ And again it's ~2am and I'm still up π

@prologic Definitely looking forward to that being added, but I'm still not sure if anyone will ever read it, as people usually don't.
~~Maybe you can do it the Twitter way and introduce Yarn +, where you can pay $9.99 and have your future posting features and than split your profit with the doggo who gave you this idea. π~~

@adi I meant what I said π
@prologic In relation to what part, I don't understand.
@adi I _think_ what @prologic is saying (correct me if I'm wrong James π
) is he wants to just write blog content and publish immediately rather than maintain static pages, upload them etc.
@eldersnake Ah! I personally have an issue being aware of the bloat that's there just to run a simple site.
And personally I don't believe it takes that much to publish with mkws
once you have it set up.
Possible it may even faster to publish with it without having to fire up a browser.
@adi you're preaching to the converted here π But everyone has different priorities and workloads. \nI'm surprised @prologic didn't build some blog posting feature into yarnd.. oh wait π€£
@adi Bloat on which site? π€ Iβm loosing context in this Yarn as itβs going a bit sideways! Fork! π

\n\nYou just got some time by deleting the blogging feature of yarn.
@prologic I didn't mind it. That said if I'm going to post decent sized blog pieces for a wide audience I personally use my personal website because I'm a control freak and like serving static content etc, but I did use the Blog feature once when I was writing about LibreWolf and needed way more characters than a Yarn typically allows.
@eldersnake \n\n> @adi yeah that was my slightly bad joke π\n\nI _personally_ **lol**-ed and still am. π€£
@adi

Not really, it was only ~1k SLOC and it wasn't taking a lot of my attention.

That's why it was implemented frankly. Maybe removing this feature isn't entirely the best decision here. Perhaps just rethinking the original problem to be solved? π€ The original problem was exactly as you point out:
> As a user _sometimes_ I want to write a much longer response...
But I can't finish this user story, because at the time I thought:
> Hey I know, let's do blogging too!

@prologic So write a blog post and post a link.

@adi

Yup π We just need to make cross-posting or posting/sharing links easier. I _think_ we've done that already with the Bookmarklet tool you'll fund under Settings -> Tools

@adi I _think_ you're being a little flippant in your responses a bit (_maybe you're tired? π€_). Try to remember that when I originally set out to build (_what is now called_) Yarn.social I wanted to build it not just for "hackers" but for "everyone". I _think_ the original Twtxt spec had a a lot of potential (_and what's what I saw, more for what it was_) but the original author behind the spec was a little short-sighted frankly π (_I can say this because I'm actually legally blind / vision impaired π_)...

... So the User Experience (UX) is **very important** to me as we continue to evolve what Twtxt v2 is and what Yarn.social is all about and the software, products and supporting services it provides.

@prologic In all seriousness, a bookmarklet is less mainstream than copy&paste. A bookmarklet is more for hackers than copy & paste. And remember "hackers" are "everyone" also. I don't believe there's anything a hacker can understand that "everyody" else couldn't.
I'm not sure I was flippant.
\n\n> I donβt believe thereβs anything a hacker can understand that βeveryodyβ else couldnβt.\n\nThat's view of "simplicity". It's that simple anybody could understand it.
Maybe you perceive me wrong, I don't consider myself "elite hacker".

I think the blogging has some potential and utility for people who can't set up their own blog.\n\nOne issue I though that was kind of disappointing was that due to the nature of the twt cache, after some time everyone's blog looks stale like there hasn't been any engagement.
@laz \n> everyoneβs blog looks stale like there hasnβt been any engagement\n\nBecause the engagement is happening on twts. I mean, it makes sense, right?
@laz Making people read your block on it's own address is also almost always way harder to do, which is probably why so many people these days will just make a Twitter thread of something similar to it, rather than trying to link people elsewhere.
@thecanine It's also lazy stream of consciousness writing, of course. No editing a birdsite thread!
