First annoying showstopper: The original Windows XP CD, that I bought back than for 140ā¬, no longer works. Great.

Alright, I was able to grab an image from that CD using ddrescue on another machine. Then I burned a new CD, which works ā kind of. Itās bootable, but not in my old gaming PC, only in my Pentium 133. š¤£ Which means I have to swap CD drives. Ugh. Not today.

It appears to be one of those instances where a CD drive canāt read a particular brand of CD-RW disks. Gah, CD-ROMs are annoying.

@prologic Thereās more! I managed to install Windows XP now. The question is, for how long will I be able to use it? Even though this is a genuine license for Windows XP that I bought back in the day, I still have to āactivateā it. Yeah guess what, Microsoft disabled their āactivation serversā. š
Thereās an option āactivateā via a phone call ā¦ Maybe Iāll give that a shot some day. š¤£
