按照原料来源的差异，座椅皮革材料从大方向上分成 人造皮革** 和 天然皮革** 两大类。
所谓人造皮革，其实并不是皮革，而是源自石油等矿物的合成材料。汽车上常用的仿皮座椅，实质上就是人造皮革。
常用的人造皮革主要有PVC（聚氯乙烯）、PU（聚氨酯）等类型。其中PVC是价格低廉、应用最为广泛、最为常见的一类仿皮材料。PU材质相对品质更好，接近真皮，价格也更高一些。
