@prologic from a business point of view, it is harderβ€”or impossible?β€”to protect a PDF from being disseminated. Unlike a paper book, that can only be held by a person at a time, nothing stops you from giving away a PDF to many. Bad for business.
@fastidious What would I do that? What would I pay for something only to give it away for free to someone else that didn't pay for it? Why?! 😳

@prologic you wouldn't, but many, many many, many many many (add as many many as you can here) would. Because "stick it to the man", "knowledge ought to be free", "I am only giving it to one person!", and so on, and so forth.
@fastidious I _believe_ that knowledge _should_ be free too, but there is a a "line to be drawn" here. If I've gone out of my way to slave at a typewriter for several years, sought out a publisher to then put it into a nice form, then decide to sell it, I have every right to make a little back on my hard work. Right?

The thing that always gets me though is the "excuse" and the "few spoil it for the many". I don't actually agree with you that many many many many many would give the thing they themselves worked hard to save up money for to purchase away to any random tom dick and/or harry. Why would I?

Where is your data to back this claim up? πŸ˜…

@prologic it is intrinsic in human nature. My data is the billions of us sharing and destroying this Blue Dot. The data is the many sharing sites. Just Google it, Duckduck duck it, or Bang it (LOL), you will see. I mean, I could do a research, but I don't want to. :-P
@fastidious I'm not so sure to be honest. But of course we're both just talking smack at this point πŸ˜‚ My only counter argument and piece of evidence and backing data can be found in many economie, Australia included where you have "rates of unemployment". This exists in every country. We (_down under_) call these "dole bludgers" because we (_the tax payers_) pay them money to basically not do anything. That rate? About ~8-10% depending on the well I guess political cycles πŸ˜‚ So I very much doubt the few (_~10%_) would really cause a great deal of loss financially here._
