My nice split keyboard, which I actually like a lot, has one obvious horrible flaw: It’s a rubber dome keyboard. Typing on it was pretty nice when it was *new*, but now it’s pretty weak, whishy-washy, floppy. 😢 I wish there was a version of it with buckling springs.

@movq I had to zoom into that photo, because it looked like at was a regular keyboard that someone carefully cut in half. 😅 I have never used one—same as I have never used an static ball mouse—and I doubt I could type at all in one. About your dilemma, are you willing/wanting to try a different one?
@david Ha! 😃 Yeah, that thing is quite funny. There are magnets in it, so you can put it back together. When people don’t know it’s a split keyboard, you can pretend to break it in half! 😂
I’m willing to try a different one, yes. I’m in the process of acquiring a(nother) Model M. 😍 And then maybe switch between the Model M and the split keyboard, or something like that. Both have their advantages.

@david Oh, and if you think you can’t type on that thing: I made a “tenting” device using my 3D printer, so the hands/arms are in a more natural position, and used that for a (short) while. *That’s* a weird feeling! 🤣*

@movq funnily enough I was going to suggest something similar (Amazon link, non-associated). It has a nice rating, but it ain't cheap. The maximum I have ever paid for a keyboard around $170, for a Keychron (which now collects dust in a closet). Since I use Macs, I have come to prefer Apple wired keyboards (Amazon link, non-associated). They last forever.
@movq Wow, that's a very cool tent. I'm pretty certain, I couldn't type a single word on that thing, though. ;-) I'm using standard keybaords, nothing fancy whatsoever. So what exactly is the issue with the rubber keys? Keys are not returning to their home positions? The keys are sticky?
@<~duriny https://envs.net/~duriny/twtxt.txt> Ohh, right, that one! 😲 Maybe I can hunt one down one day, but I bet it’ll be super expensive. It’s too bad that Unicomp don’t make these things anymore.

@david I had the Kinesis a few years back. I sent it back after a couple of weeks, because the typing experience was *really* bad. :/ Very soft and wobbly. Maybe newer models are better, I don’t know.

@movq 0.0 what happened to unicomp?!! I bought my model M from them a few years back, I love those guys
@<~duriny https://envs.net/~duriny/twtxt.txt> Oh, wait, I didn’t mean to say Unicomp is dead. 🤣 I meant to say: It’s sad that they don’t make *these* things anymore, meaning just that split model.

@lyse Ergodox looks interesting, although super weird. 🤣 My current keyboard still has a standard(-ish) layout, it’s just split, so it’s not *that* unusual to type on it. The UHK also looks interesting and it has an amazing modular design. Super expensive, of course.

@movq Wouldn't be anything for me either. He has put the cursors and the number block on the home row and swears by the neo layout.
