@prologic I'll bite. _Why did you have a poor perception of it?_ :P_
Ahh (_I'll fork this convo_). So... Basically to cut a long-story short various folks (_unclear who really_) have been hammering the Gopher mailing list for some time in the past year with Gemini "propaganda". The reason I call it "propaganda" was because the language used and (_what ended up being called sattire_) just wasn't fucking funny to any of us in the Gopher community. Many of us were quite pissed and angry and outraged at the folks behind this "propaganda". I _believe_ it was mostly being driven by the #bitreich folks from FreeNode.

@prologic ahh, so some organized trolls basically.
@eldersnake Yeah I guess you could call it that. needless to say I have very little to no respect for that particular community 😡

Gotcha. Gemini is a neat idea, but I think it goes too far in the right direction. There must be a new set of standards, but they can't only be limited to basic documents. Only when there is a new set of standards that replaces the Web for a significant amount of uses can the problem be solved.
Until then, I say we should give WHATWG and the "living standard" the double barreled middle finger and create bloat-free, tracker-free, tag filled websites that look like they were made in 2004.

@mckinley Agree 💯 That’s basically been my mantra for the past 5 years now and I think I mentioned a few times now that I intend to build a company around this idea 🤞
