New submitter sperm shares a report from the BBC: The Beijing Winter Olympics app that all Games attendees must use contains security weaknesses that leave users exposed to data breaches, analysts say. The advise of "Using a Burner Phone" isn't just true of entering Beijing/China, but also Australia. Anyone visiting Australia for any reason _should_ also be aware that our own border force and immigrations will seize your Smartphone, Laptop and any other electronic device. Fuck your privacy, guilty until proven innocent.
**PSA:** If you are intending to visit Australia, do yourself a favor, get a burner Phone and Laptop.

@prologic "If you are intending to visit Australia, do yourself a favor, get a burner Phone and Laptop" — This one is so hard to achieve. These days my phone is my camera too. It is also my main traveling computer, my GPS, my airplane check-in, my hotel reservation. It is also my passport backup, and method of payment. It is pretty much a vital piece I need with me at all time.
A phone must become a basic human right and, as such, inviolable.
@fastidious Even more so.
Data Privacy **must** become a basic Human Right. Just like it is in the EU.
We're living in really dangerous times and it's really frightening what we're willing to give up. I'm not 😳

But yes, your points on the "Smart Device' in our pockets becoming basically part of our existence, is all true. I feel you, but the struggle between what's allowed and what's not is going to be a debate for decades to come. I just _hope_ we make all the right decisions in the end.
