Microsoft is to acquire Activision Blizzard. I understand Blizzard had/has problems of their own, but this is an absolute horrible news for gamers everywhere. Like, the worse nightmare. It will give Microsoft a monopoly status on gaming.
It has the potential to impact negatively console players, that is PlayStation users. Since Microsoft has its own console, I am foreseeing current Blizzard games on PS will become 'second class citizens', and may eventually disappear. As someone who has played Blizzard games for 21 years, this is the end of an era.
@fastidious π© Iβm not into gaming anymore, but donβt they already have enough power β¦ Yeah, yeah, I know the answer to that question.

@fastidious Yeah this is terrible news. Why isn't Microsoft being sued for anti-trust here? π€

@prologic it is likely going to happen, but it is too early for anything to occur yet. At the very least, the whole deal is going to get a strong scrutiny from government regulators.
@fastidious I _thought_ company acquisitions had to be approved by some governing entity? Or did I dream that up? π€ If true, why are they even allowing this at all? π€¦ββοΈ

@prologic I believe they are in the preliminary phase (I truly do not know details on how company acquisitions and merges are regulated, but they are indeed). So, they are yet to face scrutiny; that's coming.
@fastidious And of course the problem (_as always_) will be the potential for a "turns a blind eye" to occur when one or more politicians whose job it is to regular the open market, fails to do their job because of selfish financial interests. Ths merger/acquisition will go ahead, like all the others I fear. And the Gaming industry will be worse off for it π’ I feel sorry for current and future generations of gamers π’
