This time I got some pictures and videos of the deer. However, only three were grazing over there, at the other end I could see two more. It was really cool watching them for 10-15 minutes coming up the paddock towards me. But the light disappeared, so shots didn't get any better over time (79 deer files and most were hopelessly blurred). What can you do. Also, the tadpoles are back again, yeah! It was my first encounter of the season. Looking forward to see them grow up.

Deer eating yummy grasses
Exciting!

Got that bike today, and nanook ran home pulling me like a rocket. So fun when training on commands - run, go, left, right works. Avoids all obstacles etc. Was really fun! And for once he's tired :)
I have no interest in doing anything about it, even if I had the time (which I don't), but these kind of thing happen all day every day to countless people. My silly blog post isn't worth getting up in arms about, but there are artists and other creators who pour countless hours, heart and soul into their work, only to have it taken in exactly this way. That's one of the reasons I'm so extremely negative about the spate of "AI" tools that have popped up recently. They are powered by theft.
There's a link to the blog post, but they extracted a summary in hopes of keeping people in Google properties (something they've been called out on many times).

I was never contacted to ask if I was OK with Google extracting a summary of my blog post and sticking it on the web site. There is a very clear copyright designation at the bottom of each page, including that one. So, by putting their own brand over my text, they violated my copyright. Straightforward theft right there.
Looks like Google's using this blog post of mine without my permission. I hate this kind of tech company crap so much.

Do they legitimately believe that end users will encounter videos of gruesome murders live streams of school shootings, etc etc etc, and be like "oh, tee hee hee, that's not what I want to see! I'd better block that!" and go about their business as usual?

No, they can't possibly be that foolish. They are going to be doing some amount of content moderation. Just not of Nazis, fascists, or far right reactionaries. Which to me means they want that content on there.

@prologic I know very little about it, but speaking secondhand, it looks like there's a single centralized server now and they're still building the ability to federate? Like, the current alpha they're running is not field testing federation, which makes me think that's not a top priority for them.
@abucci Its not centralised at all, that implies control on your part, I don't see that aside from "being able to stand up your own instance" 🤦‍♂️

I've seen BlueSky referred to as BS, which seems apt.

CEO is a cryptocurrency fool, as is Jack Dorsey, so I don't expect much from it. Then again I'm old and refuse to join any new hotness so take my curmudgeonly take with a grain of salt.

I read somewhere or another that the "decentralization" is only going to be there so that they can push content moderation onto users. They will happily welcome Nazis and fascists, leaving it up to end users to block those instances.

I wonder how they plan to handle the 4chan-level stuff, since that will surely come.

you might be thinking: “aha! so I should vote in elections, since even though under do()-calculus, the decision has a miniscule impact, there are many agents that are logically correlated with me, which means my influence is much higher!” A tiny problem is that the number of agents that are logically correlated because they base their decisions on logical correlation is, ah, not *that* big…

They haven't written the federation code yet. Its literally run on the staging instance. People are paying to access the alpha. Though if you want a code to see what all the fuss is about there are a few with invites around here.

Greetings from Samara. The Russians love their children yet.
@marado Hahaha, go for it! :-D
@movq Yeah, I do enjoy that. :-)
@movq Maybe also quite low hanging clouds. :-?
Woah mates, I'm telling you, today it was really worth it again! I got surprised by the rain, but the rainbow made up for everything. I saw plenty of birds, a nice sunset (by then my battery died once again) and seven deer! The first one when I had to pee in the woods. :-D It was maybe ten meters away from me. Really awesome, best view so far and hard to top! :-D About two minutes later, four deer were grazing on a pasture. A bit later one large deer was standing on a forest path and watching me. It was the only one that did not run away, even though I was walking past quite close to it, I reckon 10-15 meters. And at the end one was hiding in the shrubs two meters away from me. I'm super glad that I went outside this evening. :-)

@carsten To my knowledge, it’s a combination of the words “iPod” and “broadcast”. You don’t “cast your content broadly out into the open”, but you “cast it onto an iPod”. Something like that.

I just had a look at the german wikipedia and they explain it a bit differently (at least at the top of the page), saying that “pod” means “play on demand”. I never heard that one before. 😅

Also found this short interview with the guy who coined the term:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p038m811

So, apparently, there wasn’t much thinking involved. 🥴 It’s just “broadcast” but on an iPod, so it’s a “podcast” …

<Alice> where is Bob?
@carsten That looks cool!
And this is how it looks when it’s is finished. The text plates have to be glued to template

Ok, first, I created a small python script to generate a QR code with an image inside. I saved it as a PNG and used https://convertio.co to convert it into an SVG. I then used https://svg2stl.com to convert to SVG into an STL file which I was could import into https://tinkercad.com

After that, I exported each individual part as its own STL file, which I imported into Ultimaker Cura slicer software to print with individual colours.
@movq And? How did you explain it to them?
