@bender Let's hope your life quality will improve with that single purpose tool. :-D
@prologic Like @movq said, it is a very niche thing. But that has always been a good thing in my opinion. And I do still think so. :-)
yarnd in particular is too heavy for me personally, I just like the simplicity of wacking a file on my server and voilà. But other than that, I still support that software. :-)

Went on a 20-25km long hike yesterday. Birds were beautifully singing, the lovely smell of freshly cut grass was in the air and the terror of rotary mowers reached my ear constantly. It was a bit cloudy, but the sun peaked through every now and then. Really a wonderful day to be outside. About 21°C and some wind.
Amazing scenery

@adi Oh wow, I'm really surprised that it still sounds a lot like Stairway To Heaven. I'm pretty sure I would have gotten that even if I hadn't read the title. Music-wise of course. Not from the lyrics. :-)

I actually love that one! But no. Mine will be a simple header and a
sub-header, breaking that ugly void. I might add in a couple of links
later but that will be it. Till I make a functional one.

Damn it! My camera battery didn't charge, so all the nice deer and tad pole in a puddle imagery did not work out. :-( I saw two pairs of ears showing in the grass. Suddenly, three deer took off. One went straight into the strip of trees nearby and back behind me into the woods. The other two ran more into the meadow and then alongside the path I was taking. They unexpectedly overtook me and crossed in front of me to the other pasture. Then they headed back into the forest like rockets. Holy cow, they were super fast. Really amazing to watch. Battery flattended after the second of video I recorded in the beginning.

@abucci I understand, yes. JSON files are easier to manipulate with readily available tools. When I used GTS (not anymore, I run Mastodon because I didn't want to have to wait for client APIs to catch up), I had it with SQLite configured. It was only one file, and I could manipulate it nicely with a bit of SQL knowledge.
@bender I have nothing against GoToSocial, but:
> GoToSocial stores statuses, accounts, etc, in a database. This can be either SQLite or Postgres.
snac is simpler. Some JSON files and that's it. I can read them with jq and less. I can use tar to back them up. I can hand edit them in a text editor.
@prologic oh, I get that. I look at it this way: I prefer email, but I still get snail mail. Each has its use, right?
@bender GoToSocial is _actually_ great 👍 I've run it while testing/devel;ing my first activity pub integration for yarnd I would run it myself permanently, except that I honestly prefer Twtxt and want to keep Yarn.social alive and moving forward (even if slowly).

@abucci while mentioning Mastodon simpler alternatives, I think GoToSocial is worth one. :-)
@prologic right. It has the neat visual appeal (without going too much overboard), that could make a remake of Yarn UI better looking. For what I can see it is most feature rich, but haven't compared them both in excruciating details to be absolutely sure.
That is not to say that Picnic CSS is bad, nor that I don't like it. In a level of being decently simple, they both are. Bulma just comes across as more polished, that's all.
> I think @abucci and @stigatle are running snac? I didn’t have a closer look at snac (no intention of running it), but if that is a relatively small daemon (maybe comparable to Yarn?) that gives you access to the whole world of ActivityPub, then, well, yeah … That’s tough to beat.
Yes, I am running snac on the same VPS where I run my yarn pod. I heard of it from @stigatle, so blame him 😏 snac is written in C and is one simple executable, uses very little resources on the server, and stores everything in JSON files (no databases or other integrations; easy to save and migrate your data) . It's definitely like yarn in that respect.
I haven't been around yarn much lately. Part of that is that I've been very busy at work and home and only have a limited time to spend goofing off on a social network. Part of it is that I'm finding snac very useful: I've connected with friends I'd previously lost touch with, I've found useful work-related information, I've found colleagues to follow, and even found interesting conferences to attend. There's a lot more going on over there.
I guess if I had to put it simply, I'd say I have limited time to play and there are more kids in the ActivityPub sandbox than this one. That's not a ding on yarn--I like yarn and twtxt--I'm just time constrained.
@bender I guess if you're going to support the choice of Bulma (_and the reason for this Yarn in the first place is I'm pretty rubbish when it comes to UI/UX, so I need all the help I can get! 🤣_) -- You need to help me understand; Is Bulma a better choice because you see "components" it has that _may_ be useful in a new (say) Yarn 2.0? Or is Picnic CSS enough? 🤔_

@prologic it is a matter of taste. I see Bulma as more complete.
@bender @mckinley If you had to pick between Picnic CSS and Bulma? Which would you choose? 🤔 And why?
