I think it's centralized shit with lying about decentralization. All network is worked by two centralized things: plc.directory (did storage?) and network relay (bsky.network). You can host your relay but this require TOO MUCH resources (2TB storage and 32GB RAM read more ). Also i try running PDS and: 1. I can't register account via app,only via cli 2. It leaked on 2GB virtual machine then killed by oom after trying to register account via cli

@prologic trying out as in? I have a BlueSky account, using my own domain, but I do not longer host a PDS.
@bender Hah looks like you get more interactions here 🤣
Anyone thinking of trying our (or already are) the ATprotocok / BlueSky? 🤔

Oh, now it seems that the website of the gophernews person isn't reachable, too.
@bender Ok 🙏
@bender Ok 🙏
@prologic oi! :-D I think it is fine as is right now. My vision isn't as good as it used to be, and my display is not the "standard" size. Phanpy uses a pretty neat slider on its settings that allow you to set the default size. I will query its developer to see what he has to say.
@bender Can you suggest a better default font size that works well on desktop and mobile? 🤔
@bender Can you suggest a better default font size that works well on desktop and mobile? 🤔
@prologic quite good, under Linux. I had to zoom in a notch, as the default is a tad small on my 27" display. But I do that for many websites.
How's that?
How's that?
@bender II'll try it 👌

Sad if gophernews is lost.
It's the font stack that Phanpy uses. It works quite well under Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows.
@prologic, I think font-family: ui-rounded,-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,Segoe UI,Roboto,Ubuntu,Cantarell,Noto Sans,sans-serif; is a better font stack than current for Yarn web.
I have grown used to, and to love, the Ubuntu font. It is highly legible.

@movq that's pretty weird, but easily covered under a performer's "job description". :-D

@xuu I think he is on vacations (I sure hope he is, having fun and all!), or something. I haven't seeing anything from him for over a day now. Very unusual.
@bender Because the cities are too optimized for cars? 🫤 Yeah, I live in a somehwat rural area and you can use the bike for a lot of things. There aren’t many “big” cities here anyway, that’s true.

@movq I envy you! In Europe, using an e-bike is completely doable. In the States, in many cities, not a chance. :-(
Had a test drive on a foldable e-bike today and now I’m *extremely* tempted to get one of those things. 😅

@prologic, are you running Ollama on your Mac Studio? How much RAM does it have? How does it performs with 7b, and 13b models?
@movq Yeah, the Swiss and C++ programmers use apostrophes. :-) My grandpa had an electronic desk calculator that also used some kind of apostrophes as the thousands separator on its cool display. Maybe it consisted of Nixie tubes, can't remember anymore.

I think non-breaking spaces are preferred nowadays to avoid the confusion.

@bender I noticed that I can’t *type* a . directly. Yesterday, I *pasted* the number from an email (because why would I type it and probably make a mistake in the process?), so it looks like it simply stripped the dot entirely …

@lyse Dots as thousands separators are the most confusing thing to me. 🥴 I like '. Basically, anything *at the bottom* should be a decimal point and anything *at the top* a thousands separator.

Maybe it’s time to think about taking the website and all software offline.

- https://www.heise.de/en/background/Software-providers-beware-They-are-now-liable-for-defective-products-10028867.html
- https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/documents-publications/public-register/document-details/?ImmcIdentifier=ST-5553-2024-INIT&DocumentLanguage=EN

This will open the gates of hell, allowing lawyers to harass free software developers. Not because of the actual content of those proposed laws, because there is supposed to be an exemption for free software – but because there is a great tradition here in germany, where lawyers just make false claims and try to extort money from you. Can you safely ignore them? Should you seek legal council immediately? You never know. It’s best to avoid becoming a target in the first place.

Besides, the current wording is just an EU thing. It will have to be transformed into german law (and french law and spanish law …), which means our legislative bodies can screw up things big time. It’s quite possible that they won’t include that exemption or include it in a very vague and ambiguous way.

I’m really angry right now and hopefully I’ll think differently tomorrow.
