@carsten Perks of globalisation, we pay money for goods from people that may not have the best intentions. I'm hoping there's something that can be done to get Putin to back down but I'm thinking he might be too proud and stubborn to do so π
@prologic unfortunately, I think there'll always be someone fighting for more and more power over others. If I had more skills geared toward offensive or defensive cyber security, I'd be helping Ukraine any way I can.
π Happy weekend everyone! Hope you all have a very enjoyable one π
@prologic Thanks! Yeah I would've had it sorted yesterday but it kinda fell off the schedule.
Happy to be back to Yarning π
After 4 days of downtime, my pod is back up π
Might be time to replace the PSU on the server
@prologic Very true π Some wild stuff happening with the Libs these days. Hopefully things don't continue on the same trajectory.
@prologic if you go high enough up the rank, they'll pull another NSW Police and get their anti-terrorism units to go after you for "harassment" ππ¬
@prologic This is one hell of a slippery slope! Even if they have the best of intentions, it's very easy to see this being abused. I hope no one starts trolling on my pod otherwise I might be liable π
@david hahaha sometimes yes. I've had a 10,000 player queue once but hasn't been too bad recently on my server π
Been away for a bit playing Lost Ark. How's everything in the Yarn world?
@prologic very interesting stats. I'd be interested to see the comparison in 12 months
@david For this particular one (Lost Ark) it's been extremely popular in the East, and I've been having a lot of fun so far. All about what you want out of a MMORPG really
@prologic I use Dashlane on a family plan but getting my fiancΓ© to use it as well (as opposed to Chrome's built-in password management) is an uphill battle π
@prologic which reminds me, did you fix that config security issue?
On the surface level, it's not bad. I haven't really had a deep look tbh, had some other things occupying me recently (the MMORPG Lost Ark just had a Western release today π₯³)
π₯³ Onwards and upwards!
@prologic the role is Cyber Security Consultant with EY in their GRC team. Very small team (I'll be the 3rd consultant) which is great, but I could be waiting some time for it all to be finalised, so I'm not counting it as getting the role just yet π
Just got feedback (unofficial) that the 2 interviewers have given me the green light. Now to just wait until they sort out some internal issues and they can approve the position π trying not to get too excited until I sign, but looking very positive!
@xuu I would say so. The interviews were fine honestly. 30ish mins, booked for an hour. Just waiting up to 2 weeks to hear any feedback or if you're progressing is pure agony π
@lyse sign me up, as long as it doesn't extend our work hours on those 3 days π
@prologic Thanks! Yeah it is kinda long but the recruitment process is longer atm because "WFH". I won't question it just yet π Hopefully it'll be shorter, but if hearing back the first time is anything to go by...
Had my 2nd interview yesterday. Here's hoping it went well π€ should hear back within 2 weeks, which is only a short agonising wait π
@ullarah always, ALWAYS too quick π
I'm in favour of 3 day weekends π
@prologic it's over now. How sad. Positive note: got a 2nd interview today. Hoping I pass and get hired π
@prologic Yo! A couple q's about zs when you get a moment. When I want to build a site from a repo, do I just do zs build
from the repo directory? Does it automatically publish to port 80?
Afternoon! Hope everyone is doing well. Been a bit absent the last few days π¬ Got my Pfizer COVID booster shot yesterday and I'm once again quite sick from it. Silver lining: I'll be fine for work Monday π
Anyone have any recommendations for a good Linux Mobile distro that supports the Razer Phone 2? Been looking at some like Ubuntu Touch, but sadly it's not supported.
@prologic interesting. The twt must've been deleted, I guess π
@xuu oh, gotcha! Makes sense they are similar in the Pages regard then
@eldersnake installed Ubuntu Desktop on my Surface Go very recently and I can say that the worst part was getting the Go to a state it could flash via the BIOS. Actual install took no time at all
I could use self-hosted Git and Jekyll, as @david suggested and stand up a Cloudflare Pages project as well to host the site π€ I've got a lot to think about before doing anything at this point
Will have to take a look at Gogs. Ideally wanting it to be easy to have the same ease-of-use to setup a web page as Github and Gitea.
@prologic yeah, looks awesome and will do a good job of replacing my Github dependency π
Time to get Gitea configured and running my website, I think π€
@prologic sweet as. Thought that'd probably be the case
Morning, lovely Yarners! How's Monday going for all of you in the past? Hope you all have a good Tuesday
@lyse Glad it has more functionality! I'll probably stray from screenshots in technical documentation from now on!
@prologic Oh, makes much more sense. No less frustrating though.
@prologic Yeah, I wasn't overly happy lol Gotta love NBN! My ISP is super on top of communication though so as soon as I noticed anything, I had a SMS letting me know it was an outage. Could be worse, could be TPG π
I've updated the images to just be a bash code block or table now π
@prologic Oh geez. The only thing that comes to mind for me is "Why even apply?!".
@prologic I was putting the kiddo to sleep so had a walk and a 40 min nap π Came on 6 mins after I posted the original yarn (OY? π€£)
@prologic how'd the portfolio viewing go? π
Internet's been out for 2 and a half hours now. Not a great start to the night π
@prologic should be a full on day of reading for you then π
@david It started out really awful but got moved to a different area so now it's very chill, just gotta make sure people get paid π Happy Monday for your tomorrow!
Morning everyone! Chill day at work today. Hope you all have a great day π
@lyse Great point! Never really considered the pros to that approach and really does seem like the best approach imo. I'll get onto that tomorrow afternoon π Appreciate the feedback
@david I'll change that tomorrow. For now, I rest π΄
@prologic Welp, I think I'll be actually backing up data next time. Clean slate for the pod π
@prologic damn, better hustle for that beer π
Afternoon π Hope everyone had a great morning or evening!
@prologic Just need to test a couple of things first but this is more or less complete! I'll submit it once I'm 100% happy with my tests (all SMTP related).
@prologic this gives me higher hopes about my possible move π
@prologic @david I did change the numbering system and will make sure it's consistent. I'm thinking of going the way of "Step 1: Title" rather than "1) Title". Dw, I didn't forget about consistency π
@prologic morning. Rain?! That's amazing. Do you have the high humidity though?
@prologic Sure is a start π Just need to figure out a couple of things and I'll be able to just fill everything out!
Well, I'm beat Yarners! See you all in the morning π
@prologic A small peek at my coming documentation π
@prologic NO, I'm talking about that as well, but I might be completely mistaken with Cloudflare haha
@prologic No, I'm talking about that as well, but I might be completely mistaken with Cloudflare haha
Whenever I've used it, it's never instantaneous. Could be something to do with using Cloudflare as a registrar that slows it down? π€
@prologic scratch that. Now I think more about it, installing bridge would be fine, just wouldn't be able to do the same for a pod I was hosting for someone else, if they use protonmail.
@prologic Yeah, it's interesting for sure π was thinking of maybe running it through Gmail first but need to read up a bit on how I'll make that work with potential email spoofing
Waiting for Github to reflect changes on a web page is like going to the super market. Sometimes you're just in and out, other times you get stuck behind someone taking a stroll and going the same way you are.
@prologic damn, 3 already! I'm just onto my first (and only) redbull for the day.
Good morning! Another day, another dollar!
@jdtron Afternoon! Been a good one so far π Hope you have a great day as well.
@prologic yeah, I'll have to look at a better system with growth but that's a future me problem π
@prologic yeah! Just thinking of making it a single page with a form and manually handling everything via email for now.
@prologic yeah, for my pod hosting! Just thinking of making it a single page with a form and manually handling everything via email for now.
@prologic just working on the yarn pods site. Free hosting through Github is proving pretty good...for now.
@prologic just encode with base64, what could go wrong?! π
And the also forget to include a very required file. Having a great early afternoon π
When you make changes to a file and forget to push the commit π€ͺ
Ah, that's fair. I'm sure you'll figure out a solution and implement when the right thing comes along π
@prologic Is there any plans for DMs to become a feature at all?
@prologic whoops! Looks like it can't be corrected retroactively either π
@fastidious Agreed, however we've had a monopoly in a lot of areas in Australia and they haven't taken the initiative with faster speeds without mind blowing cost, unfortunately. Government intervention was actually a blessing to stop the monopoly.

@prologic this is good latency for Perth. I used to be on 60-80ms.
Starlink is a viable choice in WA if you're on FTTN. I currently get 54ms-80ms so 45ms-60ms is an improvement π
@prologic Thanks! It's been growing on me haha
@ullarah Wow! I'm only on FTTN and have 3km of copper to my house π
I might have to put my LinkedIn mugshot in. The other earliest one I have is from 2011 π
@fastidious our government doesn't have the best track record with high speed network roll-out. I'm hoping that'll improve over time though!
Meanwhile, we're barely achieving 20mbps in my neighbourhood and that's the fastest I've ever seen on a residential connection π
Kinda blows my mind how cheap those speeds are in comparison.
@prologic Yes sir! I'll do that later today π
Got the pod up and running! Huge thanks to @prologic for the help π
