This is very much the same for us in Australia as well. The Attorney-General has the power to approve all warrants that compel Big Tech to divulge this type of tracking info, which personally I see as a major conflict of interest and needs to be changed to an independent body instead.
Everything I've started doing recently in terms of privacy are mainly to exclude my son from having a presence online until such time as he's ready to create his presence on his own. Imagine going to a job interview at 25 and the interviewer has baby photos of you ๐ฌ Of course, having an online presence will come with some education and I'll need to make said education fun and engaging. I'd definitely prefer him having a Yarn account prior to any other form of social media.
@prologic I hear you with the bureaucracy! Gonna send my almost-ex manager an exit email of recommendations to improve each role I've filled from my POV. Filled a role this last week that sends emails to our direct care providers rather than a message through the main system we all use. No idea why but it makes everything approx. 4x longer to complete than is needed.
Our regional staff have the right idea. Make things as simple as possible and things just get done. Amazing, really ๐
@prologic Gotta love a video being taken down for a "defamation complaint". Yep, Liberals certainly have nothing to hide, especially not hiring male prostitutes and having sex with them in the prayer room of Parliament House ๐
@justamoment oh, gotcha! I understand what you were saying now. I've tested a table with a centered header above it and looks neat. I'll knock together the landing page and test centered text.
Hmmm, interesting. I'll post up a non-centered menu as well.
Small video update with a responsive sidebar. Emulated on a Samsung Galaxy S8+ via "Inspect" in the Brave browser! All of this done using exclusively HTML and CSS.
@justamoment Thanks! My idea is to have the content stretch under the line at the top so it doesn't have a weird break between the sidebar and the content but not sure about this.
Concept for the Yarn.social documentation using the existing colours of Yarn. Still a WIP but wanting to get feedback before getting too into a bad design. All feedback appreciated.
@prologic does zs have the capability to have multiple layouts (eg. An index layout, another for articles that has a different side menu, different footer, etc)?
The last 2 in the 18th battle! For my first time doing these, I think this is a pretty good effort considering I'm self-taught ๐Look forward to completing the past ones and any future ones. 50/1850 at the time of posting!!! #CSSBattle

@leo Hey, sorry for the issues with the Testflight app, but I believe another app is currently in development. @prologic would have more details for you on this :)
@carsten I'm not 100% sure on if that's possible on the device itself (they actively discourage emulation due to piracy concerns) but I'm sure someone will fond a way to do so, if they haven't already.
@carsten They'd need to be officially licensed ones, so second hand tech stores or ebay. A lot of cartridges are real expensive though :/ eg. An official Pokemon Red cartridge is going for about AU$100-$150 and that's a 26 year old game.
Personally, I run Windows 11 for gaming/recreation, for sysadmin tasks I use a Debian image via WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and I've recently changed my servers over to Ubuntu Server; I used to run them on Debian but thought I'd give Ubuntu Server a try for a while. Oh, and trusty Android for mobile (Samsung Galaxy Fold2) which serves me well for my everyday needs. I've been meaning to try out a Linux mobile OS (Ubuntu Touch or PineOS) but I don't have any supported devices laying around and not enough monetary resources to throw around on a PinePhone or Librem 5.
Personally very keen to get my hands on this bad boy for my retro gaming needs. Now all I need is about AU$1k so I can grab 2 and a bunch of accessories ๐
@kt84 would you be at all free to talk today or over the weekend? Happy to send my contact details to @prologic via SaltyIM, if the phone app isn't up and running just yet.
@prologic at least AU doesn't force every tech company to give them any information the police could every want, for any reason, via the Attorney General...wait...๐ค๐
@carsten I can't read German, but I'm assuming it's a petition against the proposal? Personally, I think the argument that these measures are to fight against child pornography isn't really a good argument.
Yes, I agree we should (as a society) try to mitigate this content but it's then all too easy for more legislation, intended to whittle away privacy of innocent civilians to eliminate crime, to creep in and be abused. Criminal acts should always be held accountable (not going into nuances) but elimination of crime is a fools errand and usually only amplifies the crime it's supposed to protect against.
@prologic ๐ nah I reckon you'd be fine. The main part (at least for me) is that I'm either able to get it correct quickly from memory or as close as possible without googling much. A test of what I know is how I see it
First time participating in CSS Battle. 2x 100% and 2x 99.9% ๐ Looks like I'm averaging 2292.5 characters, which isn't terrible, but about 1,000% more than some of these records ๐
@prologic I think it's a hybrid role (manager's discretion) so I won't need to go in every day, thankfully! More so needing to be in Brisbane for clients that want "face-to-face" time.
My Director has also told me they just signed for the first job I'll be on! Re-writing technical IT documentation.
Bit of a full on few months ahead pre- and post-Brisbane move. Hoping to find a nice place for late May that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to rent ๐
Anyone know of any good resources to learn Python? I currently have a book that has some python in it, that I got with my RPi 400, so maybe something a little less "beginner"?
@mutefall I'll be doing specifically Governance, Risk and Compliance for a large consulting firm. Not where my heart lies in Cyber Security, but I'm still very excited to have the opportunity regardless ๐
@novaburst everything else I've seen seems to share the same sentiment. Definitely will be a massive change but if they decide to phase out Java Edition completely, I feel Hytale will come out ahead with the modding community.
@novaburst from what I've seen through brief searches, Java Edition will still be supported but Bedrock will take priority for Microsoft. Makes sense considering it's the cross-platform edition. Read it here
@novaburst out of interest, are you able to provide a link to an article that says you won't be able to play on Linux or MacOS? Haven't been able to find anything atm
@carsten I tried that one but it errors as the download finished. I'll try re-downloading on my phone. Gotta use my 60GB mobile data for something ๐
@prologic the fun never ends at work. Someone covering my manager's role tried to get me in trouble for not being online at a specific time even though I wasn't told prior when I was expected to start and I don't have a specific start time due to my role, it changes day by day ๐
Well, it's happened. I officially have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing at work tomorrow or the hours I'm supposed to do because my management having actually put anything on my roster. My boss is also notoriously difficult to get in touch with _during_ work hours.
Anyone have any good server health monitoring (RAM usage, CPU usage, disk usage, etc)? I want to be able to also log these things for historical data and trend mapping.
@mutefall >most people donโt want to learn, then want instant-on.
I'm trying to solve that a bit with yarnpods for those that want to be poderators without the hassle of maintaining software. Just need that damn marketing ๐
@jan6 That's a fair assessment. I guess it really depends on their prior knowledge and the scope of the tutorial. Unfortunately, I don't think security is really prioritised as a whole, or there's a huge culture of "good enough" which I'm definitely guilty of too ๐
I like to go through my followers and make sure I'm following everyone that follows me back, to get the richest experience I can from this small, active community.
In regards to video content, for anything IT related I find the Indian community a VERY useful resource to the point that if the person in the video is Indian, you can guarantee they know their shit ๐
@prologic Ubuntu Touch is possibly the lead in software only, but obviously there's way too many devices to even test and provide official support for.
@prologic PinePhone seems to be the leader in this space with their "all-in-one" solutions, purism has just begun with their phones but the specs are...something to be desired. Don't even get me started on the design ๐
