@ullarah I always go out of my way to opt-out of any data collecting thing they try to push and use a WinOptimizer (from Ashampoo) designed to block and sabotage as much telemetry as possible, in hopes that it at least gives me some level of anonymity. But I know the average user doesn’t even read those things and just clicks "Next" until Windows setup finishes with the default options - to track everything.
@thecanine but... why should you need to rely on a 3rd party application to disable apps and potential features through registry hacks and local group policy settings?
@ullarah Because we already live in the dystopian future, where most people don't seem to care about privacy and let the big companies harvest and sell their data, without any kind of real backlash.
@thecanine just because the majority of people live in a 'technological dystopian' future doesn't mean you have to. You can also explain to friends and family about freedom of privacy and that they still have a choice of what they can use. Be the change you want to see in the world by starting with your choice of technologies.
@ullarah I try, but despite the friends and family finding it somewhat interesting, or sometimes even bringing these topics up themselves, they still usually download Chrome onto their new device or do the thing I was trying to warn them against, right after or while I'm still telling them why it is bad, so I can't help but feel like "my words are falling on deaf ears".
When it comes to Windows, I never pay extra for it, as it already comes installed on the devices, that I get for my stuff and keeping Windows on there usually makes doing said stuff easier.
