@lohn Yeah, that's true. I used to ride the train with somebody who told me just before he got pensioned that he was a COBOL programmer. Good luck with your future COBOL career. :-)
@lyse Yeah! This is really fun.
@prologic Just for my own amusement. But… there are some cool (and well paid) jobs in COBOL around. Maybe it could be an option in the near future. I like the mainframes. Since I was a kid.
@lyse Thanks! I'm almost retired. I'll have to do something to spend my free time. What's better than learn some ancient tech, right?
@lohn Oh nice! So how much longer do you have to go?
@lyse Not much yet. I got an account at a IBM training Z/OS mainframe and made some little programs. At least JCL looks easier than I expected.
And I succed in install an Hercules emulator with MVS. Just follow the walkthru guide and make no idea what those commands means.
@lohn I think @lyse was asking, how much longer until you retire?
@lohn Ah, so you're actually very serious about COBOL. Cool! Looking forward to your reports what it is like to work with such an ancient language. Exactly right, @fastidious, that was my question.
@fastidious @lyse Oh, silly me! Sorry.
But I have to work a little less than 4 years till retirement.
@lohn that’s nice! In the US, we work until you know we can afford retirement. Some people are 75—or older—and still working. Some can afford to retire around 40.

Wife was going over numbers the other day and concluded that we will have to work till 65, more or less. And by we she meant me; she plans to retire earlier. 🤣

@lohn Cool, four years is in sight. @fastidious Here in Germany it's 65, but will be raised to at least 67. Until this becomes relevant to me, I think I have to work into my seventies I fear. You can also retire earlier, but then the pension will also be lower.
@lyse my strong recommendation is save, invest early.
