@eapl.me I invest in crypto, I use it to pay for various services too, I focus mainly on monero due to it's privacy features - which I like. For me it's a way of saving and investing. I do not have much in there - but more saved there then in the bank. Cryptocurrencies are definitely useful, in many ways.
Crypto is here to stay. What I dislike is the whole web3 'pay to play' kinda thing..

hello! imn new
@rrraksamam I honestly dislike web3 platforms, and especially blockchain social media.
It's just filled with people trying to make a dollar. That is always the focus on those blockchain based social media sites. I like what I can host my self, no money or tokens \\ crypto involved etc.
Tried nostr for a while, but I cannot get into that either. Only reason it's popular is because of jack (that's just my opinion), and they are always pushing bitcoin lightning network there - and I get tired of that pretty fast.

After dosfetch popped up in my timeline, I spent the better part of the day playing with Turbo C++ and inline assembly on DOS. For some reason, I never did this back in the day. Only QuickBASIC.

That was a really nice change of pace, compared to all the modern stuff like Rust, web apps, or even just X11 programming.

Mandatory photo of dosfetch on my box:

@darch the link is literally at the bottom of the first page.
@lyse Lol, don’t get me started on old scanners. 🤣 Our first scanner was a “hand scanner”: You had to manually move it across the page. Absolutely horrible. 🤣 It looked like this:

Luckily, flatbed scanners came soon after …

@prologic I have to admit it was not useable in any way, since it (along with the OS) used almost all the ram, and the mangopi is not a powerfull device, works fine for terminal and file browsing \ editing etc, but not much more. Still waiting to get my hands on some better riscv hardware.

@movq Haha, yeah. ;-) Finally, all packed up. Phew. Just things like water, snack, scout uniform, hat and such will be something for tomorrow morning.
@movq @prologic Me, too! The last bit reminds me of the first scanner we had.
@carsten By "updating" you mean "remove"? Or where will be your potential new feed location? Auf Wiedersehen, ganz im wörtlichen Sinne. :-)
I have new batteries for it now but I have no motivation to replace them. 😩

Hello everyone!
This instance will shut down later today! I have to sell the NAS as it is not working properly any more, and I have to switch to another one. I don't know if I come back in the future. It was nice for the moment, and thank you for all the hints and tips and tricks. But sorry. I do not see a benefit of posting here any more. Time to move on.

So please update all your bookmarks and links.

had a lot going against me today (all self inflicted). got about 4h30m of sleep with too much to drink late in the evening. no hangover or anything, but probably didn't help my rest nor hydration. also it was supposedly 80F with a feels like of 93F when i started and 89F with feels like of 111F when i finished. the legs felt heavy and didn't have the energy to up the cadence and sustain it. it was definitely nice to get out but just one of those days.

@lyse Yep. Lots of rain here as well. (Or let’s rather say, “more rain than the weeks before” …) I’m glad about it, since I don’t have any summer camps to attend. 😅 ☔

Finally dug up the proper cable, so I could revive my 5¼" floppy drive. Now I get this lovely sound during bootup. 🥰

Worst forecast calls for 42 liters of light rain per square meter on Tuesday. That's gonna be fun. Sounds like digging trenches around the tents. At least we don't need any sun blocker that day.
Mobile Development and doing any kind of Android CI sucks ass 🤦‍♂️ Been trying all weekend to set-up some CI (self-hosted of course) for Android builds. The fucking goddamn build gets OOM killed at 2GB of memory 🤣 Goddamnit, this whole Mobile space is just utter rubbish 😅

@prologic I am saying that you could create your own registry for yourself, your own use, so only you would use, but yeah.
a) Yeah, there could still be registries related to communities, so
making a follow new users from registry feature might be nice, but I
don't know really.
b) You can register to as many registers as you'd like
c) That's the same problem as right now technically, we could create
registries that are related to specific fields, like tech (many tech
registries), housing and all that, but I don't really know.
@movq Yeah, I guess then I'd have to make some system to tailor my requirements. So yeah it'll open up the gates for spam I guess, depending on how it's configured.

@movq Yeah I concur 👌

This is the primary reason I'm pulling activity pub support out of yarnd. I _may_ (_and it was planned_) still build a completely separate service the abstract away the "push" nature of ActivityPub forcing our usage/interaction of it to be "pull" based. We'll see 🤔
