@movq @mckinley I believe the resurgence in availability of municipal WiFi is largely driven by the surveillance capabilities it offers. Every person who has WiFi enabled on their phone can be tracked throughout the city as their phones ping various base stations; a lot of folks aren't aware of just how much information can be slurped out of a phone that isn't locked down just from its WiFi pings. I know this happens in Toronto, and I was familiar with a startup in Massachusetts that based its business model on this very concept. I can only assume it's widespread in the US if not throughout the Western world.
@mckinley Now that’s a crazy story. 😳😂

Can’t say I’ve seen something similar here in Germany. Then again, WiFi in hotels or elsewhere has always been so ridiculously expensive that I maybe used such a service once in my life, and that’s it. Didn’t even bother trying, so no idea which SSIDs were out there …

Meanwhile, I took asciibrot, replaced some POSIX stuff (like usleep()) with the DOS equivalent and, boom, most of it actually works:

https://movq.de/v/2fe7fa6cf2/MVI_6175.MOV.mp4 (video of animated Julia sets)

I mean, it’s not *that* surprising since it’s just a simple terminal program, but I’ve never done something like that before, so I’m pretty thrilled. 😅

@prologic It solves the issue of finding users from inside twtxt, but you'll have to find registries which is in itself a chicken-egg problem.
It also makes it easier to implment web twtxt clients, as they won't have to make that many requests, just one to the registry, instead of having each web-client make a request, but then you lose part of the features, as the registry would have to implment things outside the spec to be able to allow follows, and you seeing them...

@prologic thanks! I have not had time to look into it myself either. been busy days.
It will be sad to see you both leave the Twtxt ecosystem 😢 But if you must, I sincerely hope you all stay well, happy and safe 👌

@movq Hah, I actually did a lot of assembly back in the day with MS-DOS. I believe my tools of choice were Norton Commander and Tasm (Turbo Assembler). Also used Masm a bit as well.

There is just (for me) simply no value in any of this Web3/Blockchain crap, especially for any kind of "communications" (social media included) 🤦‍♂️

Me personally, I'm a bit of a traditionalist and go to great pains to consider risks very seriously. To that end I have no immediate interest in crypto of any kind as I view it as "too risky".

@rrraksamam I for one see no value whatsoever in any blockchain(s), especially when it comes to "social media". One of the biggest problems I have with blockchain(s) + social is that it forces you into a "distributed network" rather than a "decentralised ecosystem".

@apex Ahh thank you so much! 🙇‍♂️ Just looking to have some simple CI/CD going for the Yarn.social App written in Dart/Flutter.

Of course I'm hell bent on self-hosting the CI infra with Gitea's nice new sexy Actions support 👌

Hi. Welcome aboard.
Take our "which language model are you?" quiz! Find out what GPU you run on, what your context window is, and don't be sad if the quiz thinks you have <10B parameters, that's a glitch
