@movq it is but standing in a queue for hours with other humans in close proximity to each other that zigzags in and out is not a great place to stay away from a small amount of virii in the air🤦‍♂️
@movq They exist for Java™ too, but if you're used to it, I can understand that 😅 I _can_ read Java™ but I certainly don't enjoy it for the same reasons as above 🤣

@prologic Yeah, you certainly get no argument here when it comes to Ruby. 😅 (I’m much more familiar with Java, so I don’t perceive the things you listed as a problem there.)

The problem though is that despite the fact yarnd fully support WebMention(s) -- It is hardly ever used. I have stats/numbers on its use and it's basically near zero. WebSub (_between pods_) is far more used.

@eapl.me It is already possible to indicate your "WebMention Endpoint" via your text/plain twtxt.txx feed file. All you have to do is emit a Link: HTTP header as part of the response. Any standard web server can do this easily, or yarnd does it natively.

@movq I don't like languages like Ruby, Java, C# or other similar languages for several reasons:

- The number of things you have to know and hold in your head (_conceptual things about the language, types, patterns, esoteric shit™, etc_) is too high.
- These types of languages make it very difficult to "read" and "understand" the code well. Remember Rob Pike's infamous quote "languages are more often read than written".
- These types of languages (_due to the way they chose to implement/design their module/import systems_) make it near impossible to know what's being used where.

@movq Pretty sure you are so far 🤔 Although @off_grid_living very likely has avoided catching this blasted virus (COVID) -- I'm not planning on catching it a 2nd time, the only reason we caught it at all was because we got a little "lax", gave in to our children's desires to go to a theme park, stood in a queue of other humans and boom! 💣

@eapl.me Which problems are those? 🤔

The only “advanced” Tetris I played back then was “Block Out”:

Except it didn’t run nearly as smooth as in this video. 😅

Nah, I just had really hyper sensitivity to sensations and pain for a few days. Like even getting up in the morning and putting on a slightly cold shirt actually "hurt". And just generally felt sore and joint pains. Was really unpleasant, but once that passed for me it was like a regular cold. So I was both unlucky and lucky with my experience. It's interesting how wildly different people experience it.
@lyse Yeah, I actually wanted to buy one of those. The shop where I was didn’t have them, though, only digital ones. I didn’t think much about it and never expected it to need batteries. 🫤

Hmm, helicopter is flying outside our house, we have a huge forest right here, and some guy who went for a walk has not come home 12 hours later..
A dog was found alone earlier today at the local store, muddy and such, it walked to the store alone, I suspect that dog is this person's dog, and they now look for the owner. Police put out a notice about the dog earlier today, but no notice about the owner being found. But it's weird that the guy has not just used his phone to call - so he might not be able to do so.. ooof.. (it's ice out and such) and the trails there can be tricky in the kind of weather we have today). Fingers crossed.

@eapl.me The only reliable way to let the other party know is to write an e-mail or any other out of bounds communication mechansim. There's just the User-Agent header in the discoverability extension of Twtxt itself that comes close: https://twtxt.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user/discoverability.html But it requires feed operators to actually play along and check. Active pushes are prone to spam, so I actually view the lack thereof as a good thing.
@darren Oh well. At least the deer like it I guess. :-) So hunting season is already over then? I don't even know how it works here.
@movq I see. I only used these low-tech mechanical timers back in the days: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9b/Zeitschaltuhr_mechanisch.jpg But it never got switched around to other power points.
@stigatle Whoa, your kids can ride on Nanook. :-)

@lyse I suspect that they put a battery in this time switch (is that the correct word for “Zeitschaltuhr”? 🤔), so the thing doesn’t lose its settings in cases of power outages. I would have thought there are better ways to do that, though … (Honestly, I wouldn’t care if it lost the settings. It’s irrelevant for my use case. But it was the only model available, so I had no choice anyway.)

@lyse hm, thanks for letting me know, unsure why it's slow, it's a VPS I rent. I'll check on it from my end later.
@stigatle Super scenic, I'm loving it! Btw. your server seems to have a really slow internet connection. Download tops around 80 KB/s. The medium is much lower, though.
@movq What the hell!? O_o
@movq There are a couple of horse farms around here, so one does actually meet horses on the forest roads every now and then. I know a few people who ride horses. Both owning a horse or just hacking.

@stigatle That’s a really lovely country you’re living in. 😍 I envy you. 😅

Btw, I saw your video on Mastodon and only then did I realize how big Nanook is. Your photos almost have some kind fisheye effect, which makes him appear much smaller. 😂

Today it's cold, a bit of snow in the air. I'll head out for a long walk in a bit, I'll go a new place, a 9km trail. I'll try to remember to take some pictures.
