@movq It's terrible, I fully agree. :-(
@movq Free sauna. Just missing the pouring and the cold water tank.
@prologic @movq @ionores I just changed the connection in my IRC client to Libera, where all my channels have moved to.
@ionores @movq Thank you, guys. I got attacked by three ticks when walking the down the grassy path to see the bussards or whatever raptors they are. Luckily I noticed them right away and kicked them off my long trouser legs.
@movq Introducing invasive species had never been a good idea. Not a single time. At least not that I know of.
Med fornøjelse, @darch!
We had a beautiful sunset again: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-06-16/
@movq ;-)
@darch You could use the basic format of ISO 8601, which is compact and doesn't use special characters except in the sign of the numeric timezone offset (plus and hyphen characters). But you could convert it into UTC instead. The timestamp of this twt in ISO 8601 basic format would be 20210616T172000+0200, in the extend format it matches RFC 3339: 2021-06-16T17:20:00+02:00. Converted to UTC in basic format: 20210616T152000Z
Listen up, slow worm friends, now is a really great time to spot them! Encountered two of them again. Also a fox at the chicken farm fence and two raccoons on a roof. Unfortunately I missed the really red sunset sky. I thought it's not gonna get any prettier and went back into the woods and then saw an intense red sky through the trees. When I reached the woodland edge, it was all gone. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-06-15/
Hell yeah, luckily my brother spotted two slow worms earlier which I would have completely missed. https://lyse.isobeef.org/blindschleichen-2021-06-14/
@prologic Yes, they were laying in my cabinet for centuries. No, until now nobody bought them yet.
@angel This is brilliant, I love it!
@movq After watching this video I remembered, that my first camcorder my grandpa gave me used some magnetic tapes and the other camcorder I bought myself later on had MiniDV cassettes. In school we also had those classical tape spools where we watched films like Die lustige Welt der Tiere in Biology several times. Just a few weeks ago I decided to sell all my VHS cassettes.
@movq Oh yeah!
@movq Haven't watched it yet, but I used 3.5'' floppies, CDs, DVDs, USB sticks and SD cards. I'm pretty sure that's it! Oh no, I think I also had a compact flash (?) card for a small computer in the maths school lessons for the computer algebra system.
@off_grid_living That's an interesting observation, that the source image is even smaller! Your workflow seems overly complicated to me. Isn't there a resize option in this image viewer? Maybe get yourself a proper image viewer. When I was on Windows decades ago I used Irfanview, not sure whether this still exists. As for dedicated image editing in a GUI, I can recommend GIMP. I reckon ImageMagick is availabe on Windows as well, you could easily automate resizing with it in a script if you have the courage to use the command line: convert -resize 400x300 -strip -quality 50 ORIGINAL.JPG RESIZED.JPG is what I use.
Went on a hike to the tadpoles and the top of the local mountain this evening, where it has cooled down a little bit. The little guys are doing well and once again I saw a slow worm, holy cow! I never came across so many of them in my whole life than in the last one or two weeks. Awesome! The sunset was quite nice to watch. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-06-12/
@anth Sounds like a Windows to me. ;-)
@movq @prologic A friend working in the power industry told me that there was a double earth fault in a local sub station.
Oh yeah, saw a slow worm again on todays hot walk in the woods! https://lyse.isobeef.org/blindschleiche-2021-06-11/
@prologic No worries. I need to think about splitting the programs a bit more. Currently I'm trying to test your latest change regarding the configurable fetch interval. At the moment it looks like it's not having any observable effect, but I'm probably doing something wrong. Back to testing.
@movq Sure, but nothing is perfect. ;-)
@movq On Wednesday our whole town had a power outage for over an hour.
@movq Got him again! https://lyse.isobeef.org/abendhimmel-2021-06-10/
@movq Pretty cool shot, though! I like the red, blue and green border.
@movq That was a common blackbird (Amsel) tweeting on the neighbor's roof.
@prologic I'd like to have it in a much heavier red, but who am I to judge? ;-)
@prologic Yes, thanks! :-)
@prologic Oh yes, this applies to most situations.
@prologic Okay, I had a look at the image code and noticed, that we don't support JPEG. When requesting an image using Accept: image/jpeg, a PNG is delivered instead. Locally converting the PNG to JPEG using convert, results in a much smaller size. I used @off_grid_living's solar panels https://twtxt.net/media/xpdN2Zg3WrZCLAhBo4Wu2U and got the following file sizes: 312.5 KiB PNG, 214.5 KiB WebP and 76.8 KiB JPEG. For photos, JPEG's savings are quite significant. EXIF information are stripped when uploading an image, which is fine to me, @movq would disagree on that. ;-) Maybe the hardcoded maximum image resize width of 720 px would be something to make configurable by twtd operators.
Today's sunset sky: https://lyse.isobeef.org/abendhimmel-2021-06-09/
Fear not, rescue is close! https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-06-09/ Today's hike was muggy with thunder in the distance. I also checked out a new path and ended up on a field. Luckily I caught the tick crawling up my pants right away.
@movq @prologic Me neither. :-) But I'll have a closer look at the source some day this week. Be warned, don't expect too much, images are really not my domain of expertise.
@prologic Perl is a write-only language. I'm sooo glad that my PHP times are over. It's a very terribly designed language. But as my second programming language it served me well back in the days, where nothing else was available on free web hosters.
@off_grid_living Cool!
I realized that my hiking boots didn't dry off themselves after yesterday's rain. So I went for a walk in very moist shoes. I now inserted crumpled up newspaper to help soaking up the water. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-06-07/
@anth But it still works so great. :-)
@movq I actually never wanted to see stuff like that. But alright, let's keep it for now. XMP, so many things I've never heard of. ;-) XML is so much bloat for so little actual information. It amazes me every time.
@movq Just tried it now, holy shit does their website suck now. It just takes around ten seconds to load some useless shit. Even longer if you want to see actual stuff. Closed.
@movq WTF, why's there XML in your thumbnails in the first place!? How did that happen?
@movq Yeah, that's totally crazy. I couldn't believe it either! O_o Now I'm wondering whether I should simply strip all the meta data from the bigger photos, too. Is anyone really interested in those? I will definitely also use your -quality 50. This seems like a really good idea. Thanks for sharing! Now I'm even down to ~20 KiB per preview image, the quality difference is very hard to spot with the naked eye.~
@movq There was a time when I heavily surfed Jamendo, but at the time just very few bands appealed to me. Haven't rechecked for a decade, though.
@movq I believe I've never written any Perl myself.
@movq Ja, muss man glaub nicht verstehen.
@movq Yes, all the EXIF really bloats them. ~50 vs. 100 KiB is a lot. When I visted them on Monday, I could only see about 20 individuals. Twenty. Luckily they just stayed at lower depths. Just checked on them and they're in big clusters again.~
I met Lurchi at the rain walk today, but unfortunately I didn't bring my camera. That was at most my third time ever seeing a fire samalander in the wild.
Just now a mate told me, that ImageMagick has a -strip parameter. Now my preview images are only half as big in file size. Awesome! You can see it here: https://lyse.isobeef.org/kaulquappen-2021-06-04/ No, this is not an oil spill.
@movq Nice! I especially love your colorful ls: https://www.uninformativ.de/git/bin-pub/file/colored_ls.html
@movq „Nachhaltig“, „bio“ usw. sind ja mittlerweile auch völlig verbrannte Begriffe. Die kann man einfach nicht mehr ernst nehmen.
@jlj ♪\(^o^)/♩
@movq I don't watch these, so I've never seen it before. However, it turns out, it's installed in my Firefox, too. Strange.
@movq Even 70% in my workshop today. :-(
Oh dear, once again, @mckinley. :-( I've never heard of Widevine up until now, @movq.
@movq Yeah, it's terrible! :-(
Yesterday evening the clouds looked really great against the blue sky: https://lyse.isobeef.org/abendhimmel-2021-06-02/
@movq I had to look this term up, too. Yep, nature invents incredible and weird stuff. ;-)
@movq Actually, it's a lizard, not a snake. But I wasn't aware of that either until I read up on this few days ago. Pretty cool!
Encountered a slow worm again: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-31/
@prologic Yeah, nice clouds. :-)
Went on a 27 km hike today. The twelve meters tall summit cross isn't at the top of the mountain at all. There is a second, much less impressive one further up, but still not at the top. However, the third one finally is placed correctly. Yet it looks incredibly poorley as you can witness in 20. https://lyse.isobeef.org/wanderung-auf-den-stuifen-2021-05-30/
@movq Didn't know that exists, cool.
Actually, I saw the stars on Friday! https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-28/ And also encountered a slow worm. It's been a couple of years, since I saw one alive.
@prologic What a nice present! :-)
@off_grid_living Bon appétit!
@prologic Oh, quite a high end device!
@movq Hahaha, great story! ;-) Yes, I'm lucky enough, that I don't need glasses (yet). I know this feeling when I'm wearing bike glasses.
@movq Oh, yeah! Very beautiful colors. We had just a regular sunset with the ever so slightest pink, nothing fancy at all. I completely forgot about the constellation, but there was no chance to see it either anyways.
@prologic @movq Here's a quick FAQ writeup: https://gist.github.com/joepie91/df80d8d36cd9d1bde46ba018af497409 And some more reports of evidence, there's also a part 2: https://www.devever.net/~hl/freenode_abuse
@movq After day before yesterday's great success of dead birds, I thought I'll now share my slug collection! It was only raining a little bit when I was on the way home. But I have to admit, slightly getting rained on wasn't bad at all. Actually, even pretty nice. The great thing of changeable weather is, that most people are staying at home, so the forest is all mine. Yes, of course, my boots are dirty as hell. Even the back of my trousers. Oh well. Just let it dry and then dust down. Maybe use a brush.
@prologic Which telescope do you have?
@prologic Correct, in 29 is a cat. When I tried to sneak closer to get a better shot, it ran away. But seconds later in 30-32 a great spotted woodpecker suddenly appeared (very hard to see in the photos) and quickly flew from tree to tree.
@prologic This is very pretty, though! When I look at it, it's pulsing (not sure what the proper term for this "messing with the brain" effect is). ;-)
It's going to be a little slimy today. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-26/
@movq Quick, get the pot of gold! Holy cow, this looks great! Very nice shots, mate.
@jlj @movq Well, Leenode just wants to be burned down. https://github.com/newsboat/newsboat/issues/1643#issuecomment-848439865
@movq Yeah. :-(
And now for something completely different: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-25/
@movq Not if you want to buy a driver's license for trikes with more than 15 kW. >:->
@maya I knew some of them, but there were certainly a few new ones, too. It's a mess. A mate is regularly complaining about certain services out there who refuse to accept his dedicated mail addresses.
Today's surprise at the pond was the number of tadpoles. It was similarly high as on my first visit. Not sure whether new ones had hatched or if they were all just hiding in the reeds all the time. https://lyse.isobeef.org/kaulquappen-2021-05-24/
@prologic @jlj @movq Yes, this was pretty intense. :-) No, prologic, luckily this was just a colorful sunset. If it had been a forest fire, I'd be fucked.
Yesterday we went to lay on lookout for the foxes again for over an hour. And we were rewarded. https://lyse.isobeef.org/wanderung-zu-den-schurrenhoffuechsen-2021-05-23/
It took me about two hours to trim down the photos of the "bush fire" evening sky. https://lyse.isobeef.org/abendhimmel-2021-05-21/
@movq Cool map, turns out I'm right in a red area, too. Crap.
@movq Glad to be of service. ;-) Up until a few weeks ago I always thought that the dark browns are the invasive Americans. As it turns out, they're gray instead and the dark brown ones are Eurasian squirrels, too.
@movq Wow, very nice! It's crazy, that we're able to actually still see them nowadays with all the light pollution. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a cloudless sky.
@movq Oh no, very sad!
The day before yesterday we saw four squirrels, two red and brown ones for over half an hour. Definitely not the greatest shots, but pretty cool encounter. Some tadpoles were still present. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-21/
@movq Regarding censoring lyrics: Yeah, if they banned stuff like Schlaflied, Claudia hat 'nen Schäferhund and Geschwisterliebe, I'm not surprised at all. The latter is still banned. Ridiculous.
@movq Uuuhhh, awesome! :-D I've never seen them live, but I sure would like to. Remembering or understanding lyrics is something I'm generally very terrible at. Even German songs are pretty hard to recall unless I've listened to them extensively and also read the lyrics.
@movq I'd go with Finntroll – Trollhammeren: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BBL2tmDb6A Usually I don't like growling, but Finntroll is fantastic. I don't understand the lyrics, but the sound is great.
@jlj Great, very cool! This reminds me of Bill Hammack's nice book on a British ridgit airship crash, R101: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97OnTDaLqqk&list=PL0INsTTU1k2Vh4m4jS9oVE7GFga7OLaBZ
@movq Not bad, never heard of them. They've quite a variety in their sounds and styles.
@prologic Even the simplest things can be easily fucked up by enterprise bloatware or other web hipsters. I remember when opening multiple tabs with products in online shops were a total pain and did not work reliably at all. They somehow stored the target page in the session, so I ended up opening the same page over and over again when I tried to quickly open several different products in a row.
@movq I'm missing the rock or metal parts in here. Probably one of the most prominent tracks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM8dCGIm6yc
@prologic Awesome, congrats! :-)
@movq @prologic Thank you! Yeah, the clouds were really great.
Well, shortly after the sun came out and off I went. The tadpoles were nearly all gone, maybe 50 left over. Finally I luckily realized they all were just hiding in the reeds. Still noticeably less than yesterday, though, around a few thousands I reckon. And I didn't spot even a single long one. There were just the small larva. And no frogs either. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-17/
@prologic I'm quite surprised, too. Never thought, they're growing this quickly. It's raining and storming now, so I won't check their progress today.
