@movq Oh yes! :-D
Wow, barely any tadpoles left. There are still plenty, but in contrast to three days ago, the party is over. There are now more of the longer ones instead. They've also grown by a fair bit. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-16/
@prologic Great! :-) I now added a video, too. Speaking of sound mixing the other day, I didn't do a great job here either. In fact I didn't do anything other than piping the files through my mate's denoiser, that's it. But I make the excuse that I'm not a professional.
@prologic In 8 just below the center you can see parts of his head, namely eyes and ears. He's peaking at us, to check whether it's safe to leave the burrow. Turns out, it is, so in 9 there's quite a bit more to see. His complete face looking towards us and left side of his upper body. Unfortunately, the camera was focused towards the background. To make things worse, this is also a screengrab from a video clip, thus much more blurred. An edited video to come in the future.
@movq Interesting stuff! Especially the editor.
@movq Crazy! But yeah, terrible sound mixing can be often found on YouTube, too, as one comment says.
@prologic Four birds are hidden in photos 10, 16, 17 and 19. There's an additional metal one in 15.
My mate came across several fox's burrows the other day, so today we hiked to check them out. We were lucky enough to spot a cute young fox twice. https://lyse.isobeef.org/wanderung-zu-den-schurrenhoffuechsen-2021-05-15/
We managed to come home before the small thunderrain hit. How many birds do you spot? https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-14/
@movq I bought mine in 2014, the model was released the year before.
@movq :-D
@movq Nice, did they complain about your yesterday's horror movie session? :->
@movq Up until now I always thought that 12x is pretty normal. This clearly shows that I don't have a clue.
@movq I stand corrected. Three were actually halfway decent, but still don't do reality justice. https://lyse.isobeef.org/abendhimmel-2021-05-13/
@movq I don't watch horror movies, but I experience this change in volume in other genres, too. Horror is probably much more extreme, though.
@movq I'm dead serious. I know that they do this on purpose. But the end result is just terrible in my opinion. That's probably another reason why I rarely watch movies. Some people might call this extreme sound mixing art, I think it's just rubbish.
@movq Thanks, the trick is just to look around and then jump at the opportunity. I reckon most of those poor little creatures end up as food. I now will check on them each day.
@movq Hell yeah, this is fucking amazing! We had a beautiful sunset today as well, but my equipment didn't cooperate.
@movq Yeah, those fucking sound engineers today completely suck at their job. You had ONE job!
There were tens or even hundreds of thousands tadpoles in the small lake. It was completely covered, I've never seen so many of them at one place. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-13/
@movq Yeah. I don't want to afford that either. ;-)
@prologic It's a pretty common vineyard snail.
@lyse @prologic @movq I've heard in a podcast that the new shit is DSLM – Digital Single Lens Mirrorless. So they're dropping the mirrors. Those cameras are quite expensive.

@readfog @prologic At least the English stuff looks alright to me. I clicked around locally, however, did not verify each and every change in the running UI. readfog's changes clearly outlines, that the punctuation of our messages is all over the place (nothing to be addressed in that pull request).
Yesterday's half hour forest stroll was extremely short. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-12/ Let's see, what happens today.
@prologic @movq Thanks mates! Haha, neither did I know the term "greenery", I fully agree with you, movq. :-D If you want to use them as wallpapers or postcards, just go for it! I'm happy to provide the ~3.9 MiB original JPEGs (my camera does not produce raw images).~
Two days late, once again: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-10/
@movq Absolutely, I'm quite surprised, too.
@movq Because systemd.
@movq Aha, according to this thread they could be collecting resin to put it on their anthill to act as a disinfection.
@movq Very good question, I've no idea. Some of them tried to get rid of the resin, they got over them (I reckon that's beyond all hope). Others were just walking around. I managed to spring some of them with a small stick, but they didn't seem to be super glad about that. Maybe they're trying to establish a new anthill in that tree?
It's raining today, so I sorted through my photos from two days ago. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-09/
@prologic Uuuuhhhhh, nice!
@prologic Stuff like white balance, auto focus area mode, exposure compensation and wind noise reduction.
The day before yesterday I experimented with my camera settings in the forest. Should have done that years ago! You won't see a ton of difference, though. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-08/
@prologic Hihihi! ;-)
While listening to a podcast I just came across this awesome beared seal song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL5Sr7U-LpM
@mckinley @prologic @jlj @movq Alternatively we can always stick to an older version when the chips are down. :-/ But I also reckon, that there will be forks soon.
@prologic @jlj The world is on fire!
Rain and sunshine and rain and sunshine and rain and sunshine today. At least the small pond is now filled again. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-07/
@movq Yeah! Usually it's the other way around, but this time the photos look actually better than it was for real. At least the red ones that made it online, all the others were crap.
We just had a nice red sky. https://lyse.isobeef.org/abendhimmel-2021-05-06/
@adi Congratulations! I hope you're doing well.
@prologic Well done, mate! In reality it's sooooooo much easier if the eye automatically detects movement.
On today's short stroll through the forest I once again encountered a hissing, but still incredibly cute squirrel. Who spots the bird in 31? https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-05/ The nature experience ended with a faint rainbow.
Nope, the young fox didn't bark, @movq, at least it was too windy to hear anything. And mommy/daddy fox was too far off in the distance. Holy crap, that would freak me out, too. We only got a visit from boars one night while camping 10-15 years ago, but luckily I was half asleep and didn't really realize that they were only 3-5 meters away. Thank you, @prologic!
@jlj Thanks!
Thanks for using Lyse's Local History Lessons, @prologic. ;-P Thank you, @ionores!
My feet are sore. My mate and I went on a four and a half hours hike in strong wind. Luckily our long detour right in the beginning took us to a spot where we saw a fox and a young animal in the den. Really awesome! https://lyse.isobeef.org/wanderung-auf-den-aesberg-2021-05-04/
@prologic The yellow weed with the bees in 9 and 10 are common dandelion. 42 is water crowfoot. I've no idea what 43 is called, though. The brick walls in 21, 22, 24 and 25 are part of the ruins of the former Hohenstaufen Castle which was burned down in 1525. The sign in 25 and 26 says "Forest road – Closed for motor vehicles and horse riders. Open for forestry – Forest administration". I believe the whole path leading to the top of the mountain is closed for these two types anyway, so I don't really get why they put up a sign up there again. The only thing I can think of, is, so that the restaurateur next to the sign, who's allowed to drive up his car, doesn't go to the very top of Mount Hohenstaufen.

My hike in pretty nice weather took four and a half hours today. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-05-03/
@prologic Thanks! A good mate made me a nice noise reduction script a couple of years ago specifically for my camera. I should have just used it to post process the raw material. But I didn't. Turn's out, it also works extremely well for outdoor clips, not just the woodshop. I'm not sure what this cracking sound is in between most clips.
Yesterday and today is rainy, so I didn't take any pictures on yesterday's nice walk with an umbrella. Instead I edited all my unpublished nature clips from February 2021 into a about two minute long video. I apologize for the noise floor. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergaenge-2021-02/
@movq Ah. Luckily there's redundancy built in, you have two space keys. :-P
@prologic Oh dear, how mean! Your photo looks very promising, too bad, that you can't see more.
@movq Too bad. What keyboard is it?
Birds a so quick. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-29/
@movq Oh no! :-( Can you print a replacement space key?
@movq Late happy birthday to your window manager!
@movq @jlj Thank you, mates! Right now, nature is very active. So there are a lot of opportunities to look out for.
Today's highlight was the squirrel encounter right at the beginning. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-28/
@movq Oh yes! Or early afternoon on a regular workday is pretty lonesome, too. I also enjoy the small and muddy forest paths, where I never meet anybody else. And the spots I come across there are often even nicer.
The northerly wind was in our favor today, so the fox didn't scent us. After 20 minutes a bird chirped an alarm call when I tried to sneak in even closer and then the fox spotted me and took off over the paddock into the other woodland. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-26/
Suddenly we were at the top of our second highest local mountain: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-23/
@movq Sounds good! ;-) My pocket camera doesn't come with a mount to switch lenses. If I really wanted to, I could cobble a flimsy contraption together, but I rather don't.
@prologic Yup, this is an ex-mole. The flowers are some species of primula. Maybe @movq as next life florist may further identify them with no sweat. :-) Up until last year I didn't care about flowers at all. Especially pictures of them. Yeah, colorful photo, but very boring to me. However, now as I stroll intensively, this has completely changed. I begin liking them a lot.
Today, I captured two of three great spotted woodpeckers in the wild. However, the photos of the first one were really rubbish. Way too well camouflaged behind the twigs and leaves and besides that, even the auto focus failed on me. The video is a tiny bit better. I'm going to edit a few clips tomorrow. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-22/
@jlj Thanks. Pretty sad, poor mole. :-(
Yesterday, the red squirrel ran across the forest path and straight up the tree. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-21/
It's not dead, it's resting! https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-20/
@prologic Yeah, right.
@prologic Oh dear, I really don't miss the commute. Often my connection was particularly bad, too. I fear the day when I have to travel between home and work again. :'-(
@prologic @movq Before switching to LE, we ran our own CA. Once setup, three shell scripts for a new cert, renewal and revocation were all we needed. And a weekly cron job reporting certs which were about to expire.
@readfog @prologic The W3C Feed Validator reports a broken feed: "guid must be a full URL, unless isPermaLink attribute is false" https://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.readfog.com%2Ffeed Although I'm not sure whether this causes your problem.
@movq Cool, one day I'm gonna build one out of wood. I can imagine, that threading in these tiny holes is quite a challenge.
@movq I hope so. ;-)
@movq Today I saw a bird hovering in the air (Rüttelflug) for quite some time. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera. I also wasn't able to identify it.
@xuu Thanks!
@jlj Luckily rice isn't needed anymore. Twtd now uses Go 1.16's builtin embed package instead.
@movq Nice! Did you print this with your 3D printer?
@movq Very nice! Beautiful imagery and sound.
@adi @prologic @xuu @movq The other day out of nowhere my boss asked me whether I'm interested in a Go project. Of course I said yes. I'm joining the other team next month.
Oh yeah, I encountered a red squirrel at the wayside eating some stuff and immediately stopped. It walked up to me about 0.75 meters. Twice! This was absolutely insane! I really would have loved to pet it. The first time I tried to zoom out to get it in frame, but the camera zoom motor must have scared it away. A bit later it was back, but two bikers went by and frightened it once more. It then went into the forest. 40 meters later, I took a small path into the underbrush and there it was again! Unbelievable. Sooo cute! https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-15/
@movq Tight indeed. Yes, it can be used for all sorts of things. ;-)
@darch Did you start twtd in production mode? I reckon you're better off with debug mode: make dev
@movq The third attempt was actually successful to finally find the gutter pipe tree again. I measured pretty much bang on 20 cm outer diameter with my eyecrometer.
@movq Fuck yeah, very nice sunset! I love it. Especially the third photo is absolutely incredible. We had picture-book April weather today with some cloudy sleetiness in the evening. Not very photo-worthy. Don't kill your camera!
@movq Oh! Well, you need to be very skinny to squeeze yourself into this gutter pipe looking tree. Its diameter is at most 20 cm. In case I'm able to find this spot again, I can measure it properly next time. ;-)
@movq Fit in where? The underbrush? At least my mate and I managed to come through.
@off_grid_living @prologic Nice setup. Your approach is probably easier to fix if something breaks.
Today's forest hike on old logging paths lead through thicker underbrush than usual: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-12/
I sat on a tree stump for one hour and enjoyed the silence. I then started to "plant" tons of beech seeds, which were laying around en masse. Incredibly relaxing. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-11/
@movq Gut zu wissen, danke! Tja, das wird wohl dieses Neuland sein, von dem immer alle reden… Wobei so ein Grafana jetzt auch nicht unbedingt den Inbegriff von Schnelligkeit verkörpert.
@prologic Yes, they were pretty cute, too.
@prologic Very nice, I love it! The blue sky is much more intense in Down Under than it is over here. That's what I thought right away a couple of years ago, when I visted your wonderful continent.
Today's forest stroll was incredibly great. I came across several deers and saw a beautiful sunset: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2021-04-08/
@movq Dental floss from the zoo for crocodiles. :-P
